We're wanting something for the hunting lease and for basic gardening.
30-40HP
Front loader
4x4
Manual transmission
We're open to Mahindra, Kubota, John Deere, New Holland, etc. and looking to possibly buy this weekend.
Any recommendations?

I've got a John Deere 4005. 42 HP tractor with a loader. It's been a beast. Highly recommend.

I would recommend a John Deere 3038E with a loader. It will be able to handle what you're looking to do, but it has a hydrostatic transmission. Also, if you add an additional implement you can get a better deal overall.

I would look at which dealer provides the best service on small tractors. If a dealership handles mostly large farm tractors, sometimes your "little tractor" gets pushed to the side during busy times.

bought a L3901 Kubota in December from Lemann's tractor in Donaldsonville. Its 4x4, front end loader and heavy duty 6' grader box, full hydrostatic drive. They were $1200 less than Ascension Equip in Gonzales for the same tractor and implements. Plus they actually acted like they wanted my business. Salesman at Asc Equip did tell me to buy Kubota over JD if I was buying less than 50hp Salesman at Lemanns pushed me to Kubota over Mahindra. Kubota must have some heavy sales spiffs! LOL I love the tractor and its great to have around, it was my 2014 tax write off! Didnt have a major need for a tractor but I've uses the crap out if it since I've owned it!!

pops bought a Kubota L4701 4x4 from seal tractor in Woodville earlier this summer. Great service and Mr. Seal delivered it himself and he didn't have to pay but a small amount of tax. he has the 6 foot loader and bush hog and the 20' pro pull trailer. they beat anybody's prices locally. he loves that thing, its hard to keep him off of it. very easy to use and rides great. once again would highly recommend seal in Woodville.

I have two Kubotas, a 35hp and a 125 hp they are great tractors. Now a days IMO all the big brands are built well look for best service close to you and best deal.
Mahindra also makes a nice tractor I saw it was on your list, it is a nice machine.

Thanks for the replies guys. I want a Kubota, but my powpow keeps insisting that they're so much more expensive than other tractors. By calling around today I've discovered that this isn't the case at all. I think we're gonna go to a few dealers Saturday morning to look at some

I bought a couple year old 45 hp Mahindra. Really pleased with it. Strong tractor and has everything I've asked of it

Have always had top-notch service from Star Power. You could make a Kubota commercial with all the orange equipment we have in the shop at work.

Go check out Sunshine Equipment. Locations all over Southeast Louisiana. They will match or beat any competitive price of like tractors. Plus "Nothing runs like a Deere".

At that hp range go with whoever can offer best service close to home

Sammy Broussard (New Iberia location) is legit for a Kubota. Star Eauipment in Hammond if you're over that way. I've dealt with both for my Kubota equipment and have never had a bad experience on any level.

Mahindra.
Mitsubishi diesel. Powdercoated everything. Stronger engines and lidt by size than anything else.
If this tractor is going to be used on 5 acres or less, anything is fine. If bigger, I would avoid kubota. They are not built as AG tractors and they can't handle the abuse.
I can grab a 50hp cabbed kubota and shake it. You can't do that with older tractors or anything built for AG use.
Plastic has no business on a tractor. Moving weight means inertia.
Right now I have a small massey Ferguson that I love.

I work at Sunshine Equipment in Baton Rouge. There has been some solid advice in this thread. With current incentives and financing you can own a Deere for the same kind of money as a red or orange tractor. Come by and test run one and I can show you not just the tractor but our parts and service departments that will support it.

I don't think you will beat Star equipment. I bought my last Kubota about 8 years ago and back then no one could touch Star on price.

Bought a Kubota mx5800 4x4 front end loader hydrstat transmission in February and have worked it against a John deer 5060 and there is no comparison. The orange tractor runs circles around the green one. Kubota has really cornered the market in the compact tractor 60hp and below. If you are going to look at 40hp really consider the 60hp the frame is the same size and the cost is not that much different.
