I want to know wtf happened here.

quote:

Another nighttime incident resulted in the death of 44-year-old Robert Sims of Metairie early Sunday morning when the 28-foot boat in which he was riding was traveling at a high rate of speed in Caminada Pass near Grand Isle. Sims leaned out to serve as a lookout, and his head struck a piling.

Wonder which of the handful of pilings he could've hit.
There's not that many in the pass is there?

I have no idea, something is weird about this. I mean sucks the guy went out like that, but there is more to this than is being told.

There's 4 pilings marking the channel in the pass. Almost impossible to see at night. Im guessing he was looking for them....and found one

Are they not highly reflective like every other channel marker?
So, spotlight maybe?

I'd like to think there was something more to this but I get the feeling it's probably exactly like it sounds. Left the Tarpon late at night, probably drunk, hauling arse and couldn't see so he sent his buddy to be extra eyes and clipped a piling.

Nothing worse than running a boat w no lights at night. Scary.

Knew some guys killed near Cocodrie a few years back, running full speed drunk in the dark, hit a barge. Pointless.

Ummm how ab the 5 year old?!
Frogging with dad, runs out of gas in boat, so they enter the water to avoid what they thought was an oncoming barge in the intracoastal?! What am I missing here?

No they are not reflective. They used to be but the placards are all messed up from the sun. I have them marked as hazards on my GPS and can run through them blind

It was my cousin that had his head torn off by the channel marker. Please keep the jokes to a minimum. I really can't wrap my head around what has happened!
