Father-in-law about to pull trigger on a F150 4x4. He wanted the V8 but one we found with all options he wants only has the 3.5 V6 turbo.

What are known problems on this motor? Have they been worked out in recent years? He doesn't tow anything really and he wants to keep this truck for the next 10 years or more. He is retired so it will be used mostly for around town errands and trips from bham to NOLA. Some light hauling since he does woodworking as a hobby. Might put 12k miles a year on it.

1st question is why he needs a 4x4 then? As far as the motor, i've had no problems with mine and runs like a beast.

His current truck is 4x4 and he wants it because it doesn't cost that much extra in his mind and likes to have it if needed. They have a lot of steep hills and roads where he lives and when he gets bad weather or snow/ice its a life saver.

Forgot to ask also about the fuel saver thing they added that cuts off the motor sometimes?? I don' think he'll like it, but any complaints? Is it seamless or noticeable when it happens?

2.7EB only I think.

Its annoying but becomes second nature to turn it off, just like buckling seat belt. You can rewire the switch to default off and click to turn on... but Im scared of Nazi service managers voiding warranty over stupid stuff.

Not on the 2016s, only 2017s.

I have a 2016 F150 XLT 4x4 with the 3.5 Ecoboost.
I like the truck so far (about 27,000 miles).
Gas mileage is pretty good at 21.0 mpg
The truck is fun to drive with the Ecoboost turbo.
I'm not a fan of the aluminum body because we use magnets for work to go in the plants.
I went from a center console GMC (with armrests) to this Ford with the bench seat and a fold down console... it is not as comfortable to drive.

Does it have the fuel saver cut off or was that only for the 2.7 in 2016?

Does the AC cut off when the engine stops?

Seems like all that starting and stopping would be tough on the engine, but I guess they got it figured out.

Yep. Really annoying in the hot Texas sun.

I believe it's only the '17 models that the 3.5 has the Auto Start/Stop. I have a '16 with the 2.7. The AC lets off a little when it turns off.

Have they let you turn off the fake engine noise through the speakers yet?

If he doesn't haul anything, then why not just get the 2.7 motor...? I was a skeptic with mine at first , but now a believer. Cheaper and burns less fuel.

I'm interested (or disinterested) in this engine cut off stuff. I guess i would just have to drive it an see if it annoys me.

Be cool when that POS cuts off when you're a-straddle train tracks. This high tech shite gives me the redass.
