Anybody had this happen? Rear defroster exploded my passenger side 1/3 glass. Sliding window to explain further. Sounded like a gun shot. No recall but searching online have read this has happened to a few hundred people

Real men drive a Chevy

That is pretty insane. You think it got hot and exploded? That doesn't sound right to me

Was only raptor in la with 6.2L when I got it.

I am reading now that it happens a lot up north. The truck was with me in PA last 4 years.

Ford customer service being dicks even though it's happened to a lot of people

You sure you didn't piss off one of the neighborhood kids? Also, one the OBers here just got a new pellet gun. You might want to ask him a few questions as to his whereabouts this morning.

Only windshield. Get 3 a year but I don't think it covers this. I am going to call them this afternoon. I was on I10 when it happened. Pressed rear defroster by accident and it exploded within seconds. Seems to be more prevalent in 2010-2012 models.

Yea obvious issue with their defroster, not sure why there hasn't been a recall on it. Ford back glass always seem to have issues whether it's that or they just start leaking over time.

You should be able to unplug the wire to rear defroster or have glass guys do it. Yea it's a bull shite problem Ford has had over the years. Those back glass are expensive as hell also.

OP, not sure if you are wanting to fool with it but you and a couple buddies could do it in 3 hours or so. Maybe even less if y'all are pretty good at working in vehicles. Just need basic tools, putty knife, foam-core butyl, and some acetone. And a vocabulary full of cuss words, and beer. Might could buy glass from dealership and save labor costs, or eBay.

Same thing happened to my mom's MB SUV a few years ago. It was one of those fancy auto open and close lift gates. She pressed the button on her key to raise it, and while it was going up the glass shattered everywhere. MB Replaced it for her, but I don't remember all the details. I know they can get hot with the defrosters on, but probably no hotter than being out in the sun in the deep south.
