Need yalls opinion, looking at it for my son who will be 16 in a couple of months. 200k miles, very clean truck, well taken care of. Wants $8000, give me feedback on anything you know about these trucks, and how much you think truck is worth.

I never liked the looks of that Silverado model, but I think they’re solid trucks. My fathers 2002 gave him 230k problem-free miles.
I did a car gurus search just now for 2005 Silverados within 200 miles of Houston and $8k is not out of whack but a little on the high end.

See if the transmission has been replaced and if the 4wd works. Learn how to replace window regulator/motor assemblies. There will probably be a bunch of cosmetic stuff wrong with it, but that comes with owning a GM vehicle
'05 with 200k, I'd give him $6500 I guess

You'll find plenty of mechanics that will tell that generation of Silverados (GMT800) are better than the generation that followed it. As long as it's been reasonably maintained and had the fluids changed regularly it should be a solid truck. The only thing that I know is an issue are the GM 10-bolt posi rears, they are not tolerant of abuse and low fluid levels. Bring a socket wrench and pull the fill plug, you should just be able to feel the fluid level at the bottom of the fill hole. If you can't touch fluid and it isn't making noise, top it off. If you can't feel fluid and makes any kind of noise or vibration, walk away.

that is a solid year for those trucks. a friend of mine just bought his son either a 05 or 06 with over 200k but it was a one owner truck and super clean. i think he paid 7,000 for it.

I had an 06 GMC Z71 and I wish I would of kept it as a second truck or just never bought a new one. Those 5.3's before all the AFM BS were/are beast.

I’ll go climb in mine and drive to work in a couple minutes. 197k miles. Got it when I was 16 and am 28 now. I guess it could crap out on me at any second but has been relatively maintenance free for 12 years. Replaced the water pump a few years ago but that’s it other than belts and plugs.

Mine is an 06 with 175k miles and has been a solid vehicle with little maintenance. It is my daily driver.

I have an 05 Z71 extended cab with 192k. It's solid and I love that damn thing. It has lived with me in 4 states prior to me retiring from the military and I've been divorced twice and remarried for the 3rd and final time and that truck has been the only thing I still own from 15 years ago.
I have a 16 Silverado 2500 diesel High Country and a 19 Tundra but that old Z71 is fun as hell to drive.

Make sure transmission fluid is bright red. And no burnt smell.
Check to see if pinion seal is leaking.

I have A 2007 z71. 196000m nothing but one front end bearing spark plugs and oil changes. Take it for what it’s worth

The angular front simply doesn’t work with the rounded body IMO.
Beyond that, seems like alot of dough for a 15 year old American vehicle with 200k.

I had an ‘02. Great trucks but I liked the style before the ‘03 facelift.

Good Truck...High Price
...check rear main seal for leaks...other than that, your good to go.

Got an 06 Silverado 1500 LT with just under 65K on it now. Been a great truck for me after having a Ford Ranchero for many years, followed by a Ford Ranger before going with a full size PU. At age 66, this is probably the last vehicle I'll own and drive.
Miss the Ranger's gas mileage and the Ranchero's styling and handling.

I had a 04 Silverado when I was in college and drove it for 7 years, had about 160k on it when I traded it in. all I did to it was change the brakes and thermostat. it was a solid truck.
OP id def offer him about $6500, like others said see if the transmission or anything else has been replaced.
you still see a lot of these year models on the road, they were great trucks

Beauty is certainly subjective. I hated the look.

My 05 chewed up water pumps, gauges went out one me, hvac gears went out which locked the system into blowing only cold, the emissions sensor went out, front driver window broke twice...this was all after 75xxx miles.
I was the only owner and didn’t beat on it.
Edit: traded it in with 180k for 8,000 in 2014.
