I've got a couple thousand burning a hole in my pocket and the tax free weekend is fast approaching. I already know I'm going get an Aimpoint Pro for one of the ARs but I went in to the local shop today and the counter salesman was bragging on the Smith and Wesson 1911s. I have a few Kimbers and a "custom" job that I picked up in a trade a few years ago. 2 of the Kimbers are 3" and the other 2 are full size. The one I thought was super sexy was a 4.25" but I haven't heard much about S&W 1911s.
Question is does S&W make a quality 1911 that is worth $1300?
And here is a pick and a link to the one I'm looking at. S&W 1911SC-E

I have that same 1911. It's a damn fine weapon. Bapple helped me pick it out. So now you know what he would say.

I looked at that very gun this weekend. Very nice fit and finish IMO. I have the Sig Nightmare which is very comparable. The Smith cost more but probably gets more hand fitting to justify the price.

I figured that. I've owned several S&W firearms in the past but this was the first 1911 I've handled. I think I've already talked myself into it, just looking for a little confirmation I guess.

Very nice weapon I was really looking for the ruger 1911 when I ran across the S&W and couldn't let it go.

Some people don't care for the external extractor but that more of the 1911 purist

If you don't already have a Colt you should get one.

For a couple grand I would be looking at a Special Combat Government, if you can find one.

But not a fan of the external extractor IIRC

Buddy of mine has the one like this in the 2 tone. Really cool looking gun. Great shooter. If you really have a couple thousand to spend there are some damn fine guns to be had.

And I can attest that she shoots just as good as she looks.

So does Carson. He posted a picture here a while back. I'm sure he can attest to how slick they are too.

I love the look of S&W 1911s. The serrations make it one of a kind and the external extractor does not bother me at all, as long as it works. And I have never had a single problem with mine and it will probably last longer than a standard 1911 extractor.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that S&W uses their proprietary scandium on a few of their different guns. The 38 special Airweight uses it as well. It's supposed to have more rigidity than aluminum but be just as lightweight.

The "SC" in the title means that it has a scandium frame. This is a very light 1911.

It is. I've had my eye on the S&W line of 1911's for awhile now. Bapple's avy pic is sexy.

I love how mine looks but I think Carson's is the best looking 1911 on the market. He has the two-tone scandium. It is beyond sexy.

Here's a pic of one:
