My buddy has one he says went about 180 lbs. I can wear the shell on my back like a ninja turtle. He has the head mounted on the cross shaped breast bone with the mouth open and I can fit my fist in its mouth. I'll get some pics of it next time I'm at his place.

Looking at that hand on the right, I bet he was one bad dude in his day.

His hands look like catchers mits. I bet he told that turtle to die and the turtle said ok.

that is exactly what I thought, too...he has 70 lbs resting on his shoulder and it looks like nothing is there.

pretty damn old...when I was young, I trapped and sold turtles for spending money. the guy I sold them to said he had found civil war-era bullets and even arrow heads lodged inside of some of the really big ones...I can't verify that, though.

after hearing that, I really didn't want to kill them any more.

I've heard the same. There's a taxidermist in Tensas I go to. He says someone brought one in that barely fit in his deep freezer. Said he found an arrowhead in it.
I've heard they can be hundreds of years old. Not sure how true but I tend to believe it.
