10 Day Red Snapper Season - By the numbers

Here’s how the math works out: Individual recs must average 323,400 pounds of red snapper a day. If every snapper caught weighs 10 pounds, an average of 32,340 individual fish would have to be caught every day of the season. Assuming each angler catches his two-fish limit of 10-pounders, there would have to 16,170 private anglers on the water every day.

I read that on Sportsman this morning and doesn't that just make your blood boil? The fools making the rules are so clueless it hurts my brain. It isn't possible to come close to the quota they set for the recreational fishermen in the time allocated. Time to hoist the colors and pillage IMO.

Florida and Alabama must be projected to slay them Snapper, because Louisiana aren't taking that many

But you can pay a charter guy and fish another 40 days. Make sense?

In their defense (facetiously of course) all of my snapper are going to be much bigger than 10lbs

My boat is going to look like a damn clown car going down the canal. If i only get two good snapper trips this year i am going to stuff as many as i can into that boat. I think people fish them harder with a short season than if you could fish them at your leisure the whole summer. I would love to look at the data they use to come up with this joke of a season.

We're going to have 7 on board this weekend.

We pulled out an easy 18 last weekend in 60-80 of water. What a fricking joke

I know three different guys who are taking off work the entire season to fish every day.

question - how does this board view taking a charter for snapper outside of the regular season?

charter captains with federal reef permits from the Feds really don't like fishing for Red Snapper out of season...if the get caught with a Snapper out of season, they will get their permit taken away and will never be able to get it back...
These permits are extremely difficult to get.

Caught 6 today in 65 ft of water. All 10+, biggest 15. We jigged for lemons and kept coming up with snapper... Can't get away from them.

I'm going do my part this weekend to keep them on the list with the Ivory Billed Woodpecker, Amur Leopard and Javan Rhinoceros. You know since the Red Snapper is soon to surpass those three on the endangered species list and is so hard to find in the wild.
Glad to hear people are pulling up nice fish in shallow depths, probably going to try and hit the water more for some of the state season this year as well.

Same here. I will have to find some fish in state waters as i have spent too much on the new boat and tackle not to get out there and put some blood on the deck. I enjoy trolling but there is nothing like some deep water salt water perch jerking.
