Is it a problem where you live? Its terrible and a friend's child is hurting tonight over it.

Middle School Basketball Championship Game

Tie game with 10 seconds left. Team moves ball down the court and is fouled on a shot attempt. No big deal. 2.6 seconds left and they go to the FT line and make the first.

Referee assesses a technical foul on shooting team's cheerleaders. In celebrating what is pretty much a championship win, they stepped on the court. This is between free throws, not while action is going on.

You can guess what happened next. The opposing team makes the technical shots and end up winning the game. My friend's daughter was the cheerleader who stepped on the court. There was no earlier warning, just a bottom of the barrel official on a power trip.

So, he followed the rules, eh?

I know rules for parents are situational.

Good lesson for your friend. Never leave it in the ref’s hands.

I'll hate on professional refs all day, but it's middle school and they made the correct call, you're being ridiculous.

Is he hurting bad enough to take a second job as a youth sports ref to help with the shortage? Or hurting enough to cough up $2-3K per sport to to make it a living wage for someone to make a career out of it?

If he is, I'm available weeknights and two Saturdays a month. $150K annually guaranteed, unlimited concession foods, a company Impala with referee racing stripes on the hood, 401K, full medical, and No-fault full legal representation on all matters resulting from the throwing of these hands as I deem appropriate.

My son reffed youth soccer games when he was 14. It was great experience for him because you have to learn to be firm in your convictions. I was appalled at the number of youth soccer coaches (u8 & u9) who would try and intimidate him just to get a call.

Might want to get the whole story…

They didn’t just step on the court… the dumbasses did backflips all the way to center court.

Referee made the correct call. Parents like you are causing the shortage.

ETA: Girl made one of the 2 technical free throws, which sent the game to OT. Cheerleaders’ team lost by 2.

Long time LL umpire and Referee. It got so bad in the early 00’s I gave it up. I stopped many a game to question the behavior of the adults at fault. It used to be an effective deterrent once I explained to them the real reason they were there. But that started falling on retarded ears and I shut it down as did many of my fellow officials.
