Just turned 47. Trust me. I'm old.
Don't think old. My body begs to differ.

It's a state of mind. The physical is under the control of the mental. People let society condition them on what to think and believe. I tend to ignore the ramblings of society and conventional wisdom because the majority seem like mind numbed morons to me. Just repeat and believe what the next guy says.
I also think society places such a heavy emphasis on age and experience that young people feel as if they need to get old real quick so that people will respect them for their opinions on matters, so you get a lot of this. The irony of this is that the older you get the less you care if you're respected for your opinions, or what others think about your opinions to state them anyway.
Truth is, that's old guys fueling that, because they're old. Don't ever discount the actual importance of youth and inexperience. It's important, for if not for youth and inexperience, how else would we live and go through the actual process of learning and living an actual life through those experiences? The only thing ugly about youth and inexperience is arrogance. Other than that, it's what old guys look back on and secretly long for, the good old days. There's a little jealousy mixed in there too, so live it the Frick up while you can. Plenty of time to be and get old.

My feeling is that I'm as old as I date

If you live to be 100, 30 isn't old. If you die at 35, then 30 is pretty old. It's all relative, and 30 is officially old. How are your knees holding up grandpa?

Y'all are nuts.
But yeah, if we were living in the Middle Ages, 30 might be older than today due to the expected lifespan being significantly shorter, but still not an old man.

Some people want to get old, and so they do, in the head.
I refuse to accept that personally. They can have it. I'm not dead.
Fricking this. I still run hard everyday. I'm never going to "lay down". Someone is going to find me dead one day face down in the dirt and the grit at work somewhere out in the shop or yard. That's how I want to go out....still running hard.
As soon as you stop going hard everyday you "get old" real fast. frick that.

Well, I'm 31. I did play golf yesterday for the first time in a few months, and I did notice that I had asprin, excederin back and body, tums, and pepto tablets in my golf bag.
I had a hard time with 30. Just thought I'd have accomplished more and been more financially secure by then.

A lot of truth to that I think. You always hear of the guy who retires, dying shortly thereafter retirement. I don't think it's necessarily the retirement that killed him, but often times I do think there's a case to be made that they lost their purpose. You HAVE to have purpose in life, even if it's just working in the wood shop in the back yard making chess sets or some other obscure hobby or thing to give you a sense of life and purpose for living.
But as far as getting old, it really is a state of mind we accept or determine in our mind that we will keep ourselves open as much as possible to new things, and new adventures or goals. Screw getting old. It's for the birds.

as a person who was correcting adults from an age prior to middle school, this is pretty true

i supposed this doesn't apply to older people who post on message boards

30 isn't close to old. I'd say most males peak around 35 so.
Posted on 3/15/14 at 8:31 am to beaverfever
yeah once you hit 35 you're "old" and you're in serious decline. your body really gets fricked up over the next 10 years or so
"old" doesn't have to be an equal distribution of time in a lifetime. humans have a very short period of youth and peak. then the wheels fall off

Sure. You just don't put your finger in the wind to see if it's fashionable or concern yourself with what people will think about you before you say it.

Not everyone. I'm almost 49 and still feel and look young.

Not necessarily, unless you have a medical condition or let yourself go. Eat well, drink lots of water, and exercise regularly and you get older easier I think. Some people just give up, especially when they are married with kids or grandchildren. There's nothing that says you have to do that. You may not be in the shape you were when you were 25 or 30, but you can still stay in great shape if you desire it.

well there are obviously outliers, but there are biological rules. your body will produce a lot less testosterone, for example
*ETA: it's not just physical, either. sexual desire drops dramatically (right as females increases dramatically)

I'm 35 and I feel younger than I was at 23. I think feeling old has a lot to do with your physical condition.
Posted on 3/15/14 at 8:42 am to lsuwontonwrap
61 here and. I ain't old!
Posted on 3/15/14 at 8:43 am to SlowFlowPro
I wasn't saying you're necessarily old after 35 just that assuming the human body is treated perfectly the 35 year old version would be the peak. My old man is 58 and could still disgrace me in the weight room.

i think that's more like 32, but you're right
28-32 is the typical range for peak physical ability. i'm sure some outliers have that moved to like 31-35
there is a sharp decline after that, though, just as there is a sharp incline in the years following puberty

Concerning sex, you know you're old when you're not as good as you once were but you're good once as you always were.
