quote:

Park officials announced her death Monday, the AP reports. "She was, like, stepping out of the way for another gentleman to kind of squeeze in, and unfortunately Colleen just kind of got tripped up on her own feet and fell backwards, fell into the canyon," a friend who was with Burns on the sunrise hike tells WESH. "That was the longest, strangest, craziest two seconds of my life."

I've never been out there. I didn't know it was THAT easy to fall.

It's a canyon. They have ledges. The ledges don't have fall protection. You can fall over the edge.

There are no safety rails at the south rim other than at the lookout areas near the visitor center. You can literally walk wherever you want.

Why does it matter that she worked for Yelp? Am I missing something there?

I think I saw where someone else died there like a week or so ago. It is so easy to walk off a ledge there.

There's a book dedicated to deaths in the Grand Canyon.

In fact, the son of the guy that wrote it was a guide on a rafting trip I took through the GC.

The ledges I drove by and the ledge I stood next to were all under 3ft high. The one I was by was about 16" high and then an almost straight drop down after it

My parents went to the GC this fall, they said the rangers made it abundantly clear to be careful and that a crap load of people fall and die. 1:400,000 visitors to the GC die.

FWIW, I drove through the line with this hot feather Indian chick. She didn't warn me, but I think that was because she was so flustered by my handsomeness. I couldn't tell because she was brown, but that's the vibe I was getting

I can imagine- last summer on some hiking trails in glacier NP there is a section of ledge for maybe a mile? That the path looked narrow to myself and anchored to the wall is a garden hose. So if someone is coming in the opposite direction Etc some will be up against the wall and the unlucky soul will be near the edge. I declined the hike. I felt like a wuss.

Just added it to make my headline more flush. It was mentioned in the article.
