Someone in the Reddit thread said the professor's wife penned the email (she also was a professor).The email does talk about wearing a sari when they lived in Bangladesh which a woman's article of clothing. Not sure though.

Good point. There's a good reason they're not down at the local biker bar confronting them dudes for triggering words: they're intolerance is tolerated on campus whereas such behavior would be met with violence of action at a biker bar and many other locations. So, yes, they're pretty safe there.
