Again, it's funny that with this situation we celebrate being oppressed as opposed to standing up to oppression. For some reason Muslims totally flip SJW's on their head. I don't get it.

Wear a headdress I don't care, but what's with celebrating it? That's like celebrating a black man wearing chains.

I'm STILL celebrating every black man that wears an earring. You can't teach that kind of courage.

The hypocrisy is what gets me. People think it is no big deal yet they lose their mind when someone mentions it. Just let it go. Nothing to see here.

The hypocrisy is on the left here. How can you push for women's rights and at the same celebrate a symbol of oppression?

Yeah, definitely, but then you've got guys on the right who think it is no big deal, yet they lose their mind if/when it is mentioned. Just give it the attention it deserves - none.

Not sure how that's bigoted. I didn't say that they should be treated differently or that people from that culture were any less than we are. I simply explained that different cultures have different values. For instance, we value egalitarianism and they don't. From my point of view, that makes our culture unquestionably better.

But accusing someone of bigotry is cool too I guess.

Ensuring the next generation is as close-minded as the present. Probably ranks in top 100 most disturbing OT posts of all time.

Nothing that I said was close minded. I didn't say "don't learn about that culture" or "don't talk to those people". Being close minded involves being afraid of new ideas. Recognizing and labeling bad ideas as bad isn't close minded. Treating half the population like shite is a bad idea.

I don't think anyone is that upset by it, but it is an interesting contrast to note that such an antiquated practice being used with the backdrop of the modern world. If ever there was a symbol of how out of touch and in need of reform Islam is, it's right there.

Kind of like if all the Irish women athletes came out with black eyes and we all thought it was a great display of their culture.

Just when I think everyone has LucasP figured out, a thread like this pops up on a weekend and a whole new batch of posters take the bait.
