St. Amant, LA

So you hate where you live? I mean St. Amant is basically Baton Rouge. You practically have to go into BR to do anything.

People who hate on BR/NOLA which is 90% of this board has the grass is greener syndrome. I travel about 100 days a year for work all over the country and abroad. Other places are great, but so is BR/NOLA. It all boils down to what you like to do in your spare time. There are very few things BR/NOLA does not have that other places do have that people would actually do.

I did combine br / nola together because of how close they are. People living in either city can drive ~1hr and partake in anything offered there.

I've done it quite a few times. I have no desire to live in Mississippi again.

Do not lump BR and New Orleans together. One of these places is terrible and the other isn't.

Lafayette doesn't suck, Thibodaux doesn't suck, north shore doesn't suck, New Orleans (city limits) doesn't suck, Gonzales doesn't suck, LaPlace didn't suck before Isaac, St. Francisville doesn't suck, New Roads doesn't suck, ect.

I would become depressed if I found out I'd be living in Thibodaux, Gonzales or New Roads for the rest of my life

LA sucks. get over it.

I've been to 3 continents, over a dozen countries, and nearly half of the states. Louisiana doesn't suck. Depending on what you want out of life, there may be better places out there, but for what I want out of life, it's damn near perfect.

In my opinion: Paris sucks, Atlanta sucks, Athens (Greece) sucks, Turkey sucks, Venice sucks (for living, it's awesome to visit), LA sucks, NYC sucks (see Venice), DC sucks, Portland sucks, Orlando sucks, Memphis sucks, Biloxi sucks, Mobile sucks, Dallas sucks, New Jersey sucks, Ohio sucks, Western Kentucky sucks, Birmingham sucks, Montgomery sucks, ect.

List of places outside Louisiana that I can confirm from first hand accounts that don't suck (stars indicate actually being pretty freaking cool):
Austin, TX*
Salt Lake City, UT
San Diego, CA*
Point Clear/Fairhope, AL*
Lucern, Switz*
Nashville, TN*
Florence, Italy*
Rome, Italy
Huntsville, AL
Pass Christian/Bay St. Louis, MS
St. Louis, MO
Pittsburg, PA
Baltimore, MD
Mykonos, Greece*
Rhodes, Greece*
Hot Springs, AR
Astoria, OR

The ol Cajun mindset..Everyone I talk to from Lafayette has the exact same feelings. I understand where you're coming from. If you like where you live, why move?

No you don't. You can get anything you need in Gonzales or Kenner/Metairie (which is the same distance time wise as much of BR) with New Orleans not much farther, you don't have the crime or traffic of BR, we have "good" schools, you can easily live on the water, you can get good jambalaya and po'boys easily, ect. It's nothing like living in BR.

I knew I wanted to move out of LA once my jr. year of high school started. Moved the first chance I got right out of college and haven't even considered moving back.

And to your previous question about Kentucky, I guess there just isn't anything there that would draw me in. I want to live in or around a big city. I know Louisville is pretty big, but I don't know much about it, other than that.

some places aren't for everyone. Just because a place isn't for you doesn't mean you should try to shite on it for a person who likes it.

If I was younger and had no ties, I probably would. At this stage of life, I make the best of what the state has to offer (trust me, there is no "perfect" state) and am content with that.
