Considering that the Saints are 331–418–5 all time, their overall attendance figures show that they have had great fan support over the years. They have had peaks and valleys (well, lots of valleys and a few peaks), but overall, they have had way more fan support than their record deserved.

If Nola was a bigger city then yes. You have to think about selling tickets. Day games would be hard to sell tickets to

And in one of the smallest 5 markets (maybe the 2nd behind GB?).

A lot of people give Saints fans shite for going to games with paper bags over their heads, but they at least showed up.

Post-Brees era, if the team has some 3-13 to 5-11 years, then the massive season ticket waiting list will shrink with quickness. But I have no doubt that the team will sell games out unless Gale Benson goes as cheap as possible and has no interest in fielding a winning team.

Yea, instead you just lie about a fanbase you're not a part of. I'd rather the bandwagon fan honestly.

I support them with tax dollars. I am part of their support base.

I don't think I lied, you just interpret the facts different. I say blackouts and being bailed out by last minute corporations show a lack of fan support. Maybe my "recent past" comment is too much.

If it was downtown, absolutely. I know, big if.

ETA: just like I think the Zephrys would have a good following if they were downtown. Location location location.

It takes 10-15 mins to get from downtown to Zephyrs Field thanks to Earhart. It's in a decent part of town and convenient to get to from almost anywhere in the city without having to battle downtown and parking. Lack of attendance has nothing to do with "location".

No, you lied. At the very least you had no clue what the numbers were.

You're making shite up again. From the team's inception until 2005 we had the 10th best attendance. That didn't happen by being "bailed out at the last minute." Just admit you were wrong and move on already.

Agree with you for the most part, but the current stadium isn't within walking distance of many desirables. Move them to Turchin (Tulane) and it absolutely helps attendance. Still, I reiterate, NOLA MLB team = disaster.

Certainly there were those times and the ends of certain coach's eras got like that, but it doesn't mean support is poor just because something doesn't sell out. And it's definitely not unique to just the Saints.

Seriously, you would need at least 10,000 season ticket holders. Season tickets for a major league team usually cost at least $2,000. How many people in New Orleans would have the interest in baseball and the disposable income to plop down $2,000+ for season tickets to a MLB team? I bet it would be a lot less than 10,000 people. Also, New Orleans would have to build a baseball stadium that require public financing. Would the citizens of New Orleans be willing to pay hundreds of millions of dollars in taxes to build a MLB stadium? I sincerely doubt it.

You're right. There weren't bailouts by corporations, blackouts, or threats to move in the early 2000's.

All of this because Benson had the support needed from the fanbase.

Tell yourself whatever you have to. You got owned in this thread and you're too stubborn to admit it.

I'll admit I was wrong. The Saints have high attendance numbers.

I probably should have expounded further about my "attendance doesn't lie" qualifier, but I made a quick quip and will admit I am wrong.

Interesting topic. I would say no. I think a new MLB franchise anywhere nowadays is a dicey call.

My list cities would be in this order:

Las Vegas
San Antonio
Charlotte or Raleigh/Durham
San Juan
Nashville

That's about it. What you think?

MLS teams seem to have much smaller stadiums if they don't share one with an NFL team.....but they also seem to be in much larger markets. Would be cool to have one in Louisiana though.

Not to rehash the same old shite....but a lot of companies left New Orleans in the 1970's and 1980's. The oil crunch stunted growth in three of the state largest metros. Had those things not happened, a lot would be massively different today.

It may be hard to sell that many season ticket packages, but keep in mind they also sell half season and quarter season ticket packs. I have bought 20 game packages in the past, which ran me about $500 for good seats. That's a little easier pill to swallow and it also allowed me to buy post season tickets for face value. I ended up selling the tickets for games I didn't want to go to and it really didn't end up costing me a lot. If you work full time 20 games is a lot to go to. Especially the weekday games. I had no problem making some of my money back for games I couldn't go to.

One of those great opportunities to pop in and say ATL>NOLA

I didn't see it mentioned but you also have to consider that MLB has daytime games in the SUMMER. It's hard to pack a stadium when it is 9 million degrees and 115% humidity outside. That would be a major issue in NOLA.

Maybe if we had an indoor stadium. Too much rain and heat during the summer

I would go gaga for a Louisiana MLB team that played indoors in a beautiful stadium. That would be pretty close to heaven provided I could afford tickets and quality concessions.
