Really? Is that how you're going to base your decision to hire someone?

Do you honestly not see the reasoning behind a question like this?

I got asked: You will be the only male on campus. How will you handle working with a bunch of women?

My answer: Are you serious?

This is a fair question, IMO.

In a med school interview, a plastic surgeon looked through my file and told me I had very impressive MCAT scores and grade point. He then asked me if I was honest. I said "Yes.". The then asked if I thought I would get in the first time especially since I was applying early and I said "Yes". His next comment was, "I didn't get in my first time, do you think your smarter than me?". I asked what his MCAT and grade point were and he replied that they weren't as high as mine. So I stated that I apparently was smarter than him and more deserving of acceptance on initial application. He laughed, patted me on the shoulder and said, "Well you are obviously smart and honest. Good answer." Not gonna lie. I thought that's where he was headed but it still puckered my arse to say it.

After the manager walked me around to meet the team we went back to the conference room to round out the interview and then he said, "As you can see, you will be the only African American in the group, will you be comfortable with that?" I looked at him, smiled, and said generally in my profession I'm always the only African American in the group so it's typical.

That was the first time anyone ever brought up race during an interview. Thinking back now, I should've sued their arse and changed the company name to my last name.

Now I thought the question was really shitty but my answer was "Well I would arrange or do anything possible to finish this job before taking the fulltime job. What would be even better is if I was offered a fulltime position here."

There were 3 of them in the interview and the look on their faces was priceless.....they literally did not expect that answer

BTW I didn't get the job because I was honest. Oh well it worked out for me in the long run.

I have read this three times and I still don't understand what was edgy, unexpected, or surprising about your response.

For my PA school interview I had to describe an object on a sheet of paper I was given for another person to draw but I couldn't say what it was. Really tripped me up

I hate canned questions but sometimes you have ask them per company protocol. Sometimes the answers can be gold.

Me: what is your biggest weakness.

Dude: my balls.

There was nothing wrong with that question. I interviewed at an all-female school and I was asked a similar question.

I certainly do, but a little more specific would be better to judge a candidate. "Tell us about a time at work where you had to make a decision between protecting a co-worker and doing the right thing in respect to the company and their ethical/operating procedures" would be much better

Reverse the genders in this situation, and you have yourself a law suit.

First, you ask if it is an African Elephant or an Asian Elephant...then you say, you need a minute to calculate the black market value of the tusks.

I'd rather a question like that than some pre-written bullshite questions that everyone asks and no one listens to because it's asked ad nauseum and no one can give a different answer.
