Pretty much.

The TLMA World Championship is a horn measuring event with careful detail to tip to tip measurement and total horn. Measurements are calculated to 1/16th of an inch by a team of experienced horn masters. This event has built momentum for many years and has great influence on Texas Longhorn market popularity. In recent years Texas Longhorn cattle have sold for amounts above $150,000, and many were sporting record wide serpentined spreads.

It's going down in 2 days. Here's a video of him arriving in Ft. Worth yesterday.

Do Longhorns taste better than other cattle or are they just novelties?

Serious question. After cloning, what value do the big horns represent? Does it make the meat better? I'm not sure I understand the big deal abt big horns representing. Besides a world record.

Eta. Just read someone else ask same question. Disregard

I came to ask that exact question. Who cares how big his horns get? Cows are bred for milk and meat, not for horns.

What value does a 10 year old steer have, that is not a world record holder?

Novelties for the most part. They make okay hamburger, and there is a market for organic grass fed beef, but you want your steaks out of cows like angus.

I guess the same reason people bid millions for cars and paintings.

So a 10 year old steer is worth about $1800? That does not sound like a very good 10 year investment.

Typically you would sell a steer at 18 months old when he weighs between 1000-1500 lbs.

They age them to grow the horns out.

This is him about the age when most steers meet their maker...
