Technically most people could bunt a baseball, maybe even make contact with a swing.
Against a major league pitcher? Nope.
Your average person would look straight up foolish trying to bunt a major league curveball.

Baseball in general does not require a lot of physical athleticism. It requires a great deal of skill (hitting and pitching etc.), but I wouldn't classify baseball players as the most athletic. Basketball would get my vote, especially seeing the players who play in today's NBA. Just physical freaks everyone of them.

Here's a different perspective... how many baseball players could be olympians? Few. Basketball? Long and high jumpers galore.
Football by far translates the best. Every position would translate well.

define athleticism by all around exertion.
that's the problem, athleticism has nothing to do with exertion. I can exert every ounce of energy I have and not be athletic

This is how I see it...
Put your average baseball player on the basketball court or football field, they will compete. Might not be good but the average player is athletic enough to "compete" in all phases of those sports.
Put the average basketball/football player on the baseball field, they will not be competitive in all phases of the sport - hitting, fielding, throwing, running 90 feet
Perhaps it's more of a "talent" thing rather than "athleticism" though

Baseball should be at the bottom.

Lol... Nope.

How about this: have pro basketball and baseball players play a game of football. It would be an absolute beatdown.

I'm about 40 and have continued to play basketball all of my life. I've started trying to play the sports more often recently that I played when I was younger, flag football, tennis, softball (since baseball leagues are harder to find), etc.
I feel like if you can play basketball fairly well that you can play most sports.
In the US, our best athletes play football though. I think the RB and LB positions are usually the best overall athletes. An NFL LB typically is fast, strong, and mentally intelligent to react at a moment's notice to make a tackle on some of the best athletes in the world (RBs, WRs, mobile QBs) while shedding blocks from 300+ LB O-Linemen.

Baseball and soccer require a baseline of athleticism (obviously quite high at the professional level), but the real differentiator for outstanding players is skill.
I think the opposite tends to be true in football (outside of QB) and basketball: there is more of a direct correlation between outright athleticism and performance.

an NFL TE is the most athletic position.
the most athletic sport is basketball.
the most skilled sport is baseball.

Hahaha most people could hit a baseball my arse. Maybe if it was the same speed and same location every time. It is pretty well known that hitting a round ball with a round bat at 90 mph is one of the hardest things in sports.

I would add lacrosse to that list as well

I had a class a long time ago where we debated this.
First we listed athletic traits i.e. speed, strength, agility, quickness, hand/eye coordination, balance, power, endurance, etc.
Then we gave scores to each athlete in their respective sports. Football had two, running back and receiver. All other sports had one. We just said, shortstop for baseball(this was before Bo Jackson). Each got a score for each athletic trait, then you tallied them up.
I don't remember exactly, but decathlete, running back, basketball(guard/forward), hockey all scored the highest. I think hockey scored highest overall if I remember, but it was close. I also think gymnast scored pretty high too.

Hockey....big, physical, coordination of skills and hand eye while moving at great speeds.

Football, basketball, then baseball.......any other order is BS.
