Would have done the same thing as that lady. I would have pulled that fricker out of the water and beat/killed it with said shovel. The only risky part would be dealing with it in water, but if the gator had a dog in its mouth, that sort of alleviates the risk involved long enough to pull it from the water to commence said beating.

I guess I'm just not that scared of gators. Not sure if it's from watching too much Steve Erwin as a child or if it comes naturally, but on land they're just not very threatening.

Side story: when we were down for my brothers wedding in SC I came across this guy. He was somewhere between 4.5-6 feet, not too much smaller than the gator mentioned in the story. I was extremely tempted to jump on his back Crocodile Hunter style, but luckily realized mom would kill me if I lost a hand before my brothers wedding. In the scenario above though, no fear I would have beat the shite out of the gator to save one of my dogs.

Exactly. It's jaws are locked on the dog so it isn't biting you. It's not a massive gator either. Pull it out the water and it can't death roll. Plus, it's not like it's a 14 ft croc. People way over exaggerate the mean streak of gators.

I never say Id do crazy shite on here, but my 75 lb dog is my best friend. I would, without hesitation, go after him. I know it's dumb as hell, but my stomach is in knots just thinking about this situation.

No question.

ETA: also grew up seeing gators a lot in my close proximity fishing, on golf courses, and on our property, so maybe I'm desensitized. We used to run up and slap them in the back as kids and run away. They would scurry into the water immediately almost everytime.

I almost certainly would go in after either of our dogs with a gator that size.

People and their dogs :sigh:

They are worthless animals, she should have let the gator do its natural thing.
