Cabs, cab companies, and subsequently cabbies, are all fricking scum.

Only used it once....but once was enough to make me a fan.

They just recently got Lyft out here as well. Haven't tried that one out yet.

They are direct competitors. I've used both, and have been thoroughly impressed with both. While talking with the Lyft driver here in Houston, he works for both uber and lyft, to make more money.

I loved it while in Philly. You avoid the nasty cabs as well as the gypsy cabs. It is also super convenient not to have to wonder how much the cab will be. It is done before the car even arrives.

why does this sound like what it will all boil down to.

seems like a great idea i was just thinking of starting something like this but un regulated.... and really work by word of mouth and maybe a app.

Since people here have NYC airport experience....

I gotta be at EWR at 6:15 Sunday morning. Will uber be reliable at all? I was going to get a private car service but have Uber ready in case they don't show.

no, like medical doctors, cab operators will win through regulation.

UberX is also a game changer. Same cost as a regular taxi, nicer drivers (because they get rated), seamless payment through the app, no tip required (built in).

I use Uber a minimum of 2 times a week...I will never ride in a yellow cab unless I have no other option. Night and day.

I would love for Nola to catch on, I'd use it. I'd much rather chat up a regular local person just making a couple bucks or a college student than some middle easterner or Northern African

Why is that?

Live in Dallas. Uber is going to destroy the Nola taxi market. It's everything Nola taxi cabs aren't, reliable, clean, and efficient. Been using it two years in Dallas now and since that time I have only been in a cab twice. Some of the better Nola taxi cab drivers will eventually switch to uber, but a lot of those dudes are screwed. Uber drivers actually have to pass tests in order to become a driver, and überx is actually cheaper than cabs in Dallas

Never done it in that direction, usually just for LGA or JFK. I've always taken the air train to Newark but can't imagine traffic is terrible at 5AM on a Sunday.

Edit: Uber is noticeably more expensive here...apparently its not like that elsewhere. This post was edited on 5/29 at 7:38 pm

I remember cabs being fairly cheap in NYC or at least I expect them to be more. Taxi in Dallas is Houston are not cheap

Yeah...unless you're caught in traffic rates(which does happen), rates are fairly reasonable. I guess just because it's so congested compared to other cities, but Atlanta cabs are killer.
