With Jazz Fest coming up the next two weeks and the biggest tourism weekend other then Mardi Gras, why would the city begin "renovating" Bourbon today? It just doesn't make any sense why this can't wait two weeks

quote:

The 100 block of Bourbon Street is closed for the reconstruction of the street and its underground utilities that is as part of the city's $6 million French Quarter infrastructure project that started Monday April 24, 2017. A chain-link fence will be erected around the closed area, which will extend from Canal Street to the intersection at Iberville Street and last between 60 to 75 days. The work will block off half of the Iberville intersection.

Are they doing anything other than working on the utilities?

It gets more than enough traffic to delay construction for two weeks. It's not like replacing the road is anything critical to the area. I think you underestimate how big jazz fest has become, I saw there were 20,000 rentals on AirBNB alone for the next two weekends

Events happen every week in this city. There's really never a "good" time.

Because they want to displace all the thugs that hang out in the 100 block of Bourbon.

There are about 100 festivals per year in new olreans and at least one on 50 weekend per year.

There would never be a good time to start

Honestly, I'd be more surprised if they didn't do something stupid like this.

What Is hilarious is that the reason they gave for removing the monument at night was "to reduce the effect on day to day operations in the city" in so many words.

Yet, let's shut down two blocks during Jazz Fest. Crazy pills

Well this is the biggest one. A lot more out of towners come for this than the others. Out of towners go to the French Quarter.

They should've done this during Essence Fest

It's always going to get in the middle of some fest or event.

Just need to deal with it for the next few years.

That's silly. There are plenty of weekends much less crowded than jazz fest weekend, not to mention Jazz fest is the most popular fest in Nola.

Just wait till Summer when the Quarter is at it's least crowded. That'd be too logical though.

Question about what they're doing. I was told they are repaving streets, fixing drainage paths/slopes so the sludge gets/flows into the sewer better, and adding street lights?

Is that true? Is that all they're doing?

The day after Jazz Fest would be a much better time to start.

The goal is to be done by Mardi Gras. If they don't start now it won't be done in time. I mean it won't be done in time anyway, and when it is done something will go wrong and it will need to be re-done.
