I don't get this. I'm 21 years old, by no means do I want to stay at this job forever. But I'm a manager and a buddy of mine texted me saying he "really needed a job" so I did the white thing and got him hired on up here. Not a week into the job he doesn't show up for work one morning so I called and called until his phone was turned off. He finally texts me and says "hey man I had a death in the family" I told him politely that that sucks but he's gotta let me and the owner know so we can plan around him not being there. This type of stuff continued to go on until I finally told the owner he needed to fire him. So now I look like an a-hole for giving the owner my word that he'd work. And oh by the way, he's now texting me saying he wants another chance at the job. Wtf? I don't understand the nerve of some people.

It shouldn't be that hard to just fricking show up to work. And if you don't show up, then you don't have a job and don't expect to have another chance at the job.

How do some people (not just my age group, but ALL age groups) just not have an appetite for work and making some form of income? It just baffles me.

Can't risk yourself for anyone else, friends are friends but don't ever put yourself on the line for them

Most people in the gen-x/gen-y age group are lazy, entitled brats? Color me surprised.

Work sucks.

At least my girlfriend leaves me roses by the stairs. Surprises let me know she cares.

Burger King has a high turnover rate bro. You know this. Maybe he thought the fight for 15 campaign was successful only to find out later he was making minimum wage.

Did you confirm if he did indeed have a death in the family..?? Or just you just assume it was an illegitimate excuse..??? If what he says is true...firing could be a bit extreme and maybe just reprimanded for poor communication.

And it's your friend??? Man, you seem like a huge fricking power tripping dick

Most people don't care about what they do, thus they lack work ethic.

Breakfast bowls aren't gonna smoke themselves brah.

Just tell Randall to split it with you and y'all can listen to tool while cutting the veggies for the midmorning subway crowd.

You wouldn't be in this position if you had hired Randall instead of your friend.

Checked the local obituaries the next day and the day after and nothing about a death in his family. (He said it was his grandmother)

Honestly, even if my grandmother passed away, I would still go to work that day.

If you would have completed college, you would deal with less of this nonsense.

He said it persisted.
