Hypothetical: If an undercover vice officer were to approach/be approached by a john and he said he was only interested in dealing if they could film the act for the purpose of producing a pornographic film, would the john be on the hook for solicitation?

This is not at all the answer. Porn is considered performance art by the Supreme Court. The actors are friggin actors. That's why Porn is legal and not prostitution. They tried to make Porn illegal in the past.

The same reason a lot of drugs are not legal. It's too easy for the population to conduct business without uncle Sam getting his cut.
