Why is milk so damn expensive in Louisiana?

Do you people realize the CPI for a gallon of milk in December 2015 was $3.31? WHY do we have to pay $5.00+ in Louisiana for the same damn thing?
I'm sure it's some kind of cockamamie tax/corruption scheme, but I'm just trying to understand.

Luckily for me I follow Tom Brady's diet and i'm dairy free!

It's white, gotta tax it for it's privilege.

We have a law that prevents sales on milk.

where are you buying milk for that much?

OJ is where it's at. I haven't had milk since elementary school.

Basically correct. There's a law in place that was successfully lobbied by the dairy industry of the state that mandates that milk cannot be sold below a certain price (wholesale + $x).
A national chain like Fresh Market got busted offering their national discount of $1.99/gal a few years ago.
Here's the story:

The upscale supermarket chain yanked milk from its $2.99 once-a-week promotion after a state auditor objected to the low price. A gallon of whole milk was priced at $5.69 Thursday at the Fresh Market in Perkins Rowe.
State Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Mike Strain said Fresh Market violated state regulations by selling milk below cost as part of a promotion.
The supermarket routinely sells a gallon of skim, 1 percent, 2 percent or whole milk for $2.99 on Tuesdays, limiting the quantity to four per customer.
State law requires retailers’ markups to be no less than 6 percent of the invoice cost after adding freight charges.
The Dairy Stabilization Board oversees milk prices in Louisiana. The board was established after Schwegmann, a New Orleans-area grocery chain, launched a legal battle in the 1970s with the Louisiana Milk Commission to buy milk from out-of-state suppliers because it was cheaper.

the only time I pay $5+ is if I buy from the local dairy farm
other than that a gallon is about $3.50 at Krogers?

Plus the politicians won't legalize raw milk so I can't bring my family to the farm to suck a cows titty dry.

I keep telling my self it's good for me. Honestly, Tropicana "lots of pulp" is like a dessert for me. I never could get into milk but I will say, ice cold white milk is miles ahead of the oj concentrate that breakfast places try to pass off as the real thing; and charging you for refills is BS.

Greatest thing about moving to Dallas, only $2.50 a gallon

$1.99 a gallon here; most every grocery store has weekly sales on milk.
I've noticed certain dairy farms don't participate in the sales and their milk is around $2.50-$2.80 a gallon
