The man was pre-selected to betray Jesus. Jesus even knew he was going to do it the entire time and while Jesus acted like Judas had free-will, his fate was set.

So why is Judas always referenced as being in Hell? Or as a traitor?

Without Judas, Jesus doesn't get crucified and thus doesn't die for the sins of mankind. Thus saving mankind. And then Judas, so overcome with shame and grief, returns the money paid and kills himself. It's not even like he's some terrible person who runs away and lives the rest of his days with silver and concubines.

Regardless if you believe or not, it's something that's always puzzled me as to how Judas is vilified and not celebrated.

Because calling traitors a nickname is better than their actual name.

Yet without Peter our Lord is not denied. Peter, unlike Judas, sought forgiveness...'Peter, do you love Me'. Judas, unlike Peter, took matters into his own hands and took his life. Given the differences of the two responses one might wonder as to the heart of each...just a notion.

I agree. Judas was doing God's will. Jesus was meant to die for us. Amazing. Happy Easter one and all.

Simple.. because people are ignorant and don't think about what it would mean if Judas was pre-selected.

God obviously intended for Adam and Eve to fall also. There's no logical way around it.

It's a hell of a fantasy story

He's made to embody the weakness of man.

Looking at him reminds people of their faults.

No, God made provision in the event they fell. Don't forget, there were two trees and only one prohibition

We've been saved already? So mankind could be worse off?

Poor Judas.

Dude was just doing his job.

He could have been on welfare, collecting a check, drinkin his purple, and smokin dank arse weed all day.

Things don't need to make sense if you have FAITH.

Sounds like you don't have any FAITH.

If memory serves correct Judas tried to return the money when he realized what he had done which sure seems to signify some self volition. Judas loved money and was known to take monies given for Jesus and the disciples as he was the keeper of their purse...this was not a man of sterling integrity long before the betrayal

We know what happened, Judas didn't know what his betrayal would lead to. He outed Jesus to the religious leaders who could not put someone to death as that was a Roman action

Just because God knows what will happen, doesn't mean we don't have free will. Understand that we see time linearly, but imagine time happening in one moment.

We make all of our own decisions, we just can't perceive events the way God does.

Had this conversation tonight. An evil spirit entered Judas as soon as JESUS handed him the sop. Doesn't sound like total free will.

Pharoah's hardening of the heart is another instance in Exodus. God is specifically mentioned as the agent who hardened his heart.
