when we drove down to Shreveport from DC for Christmas, we stopped in Bristol, TN/VA and that place is 100x more "southern" than any place I've been to in Louisiana

Have you been to Bogalusa?

There is a track in Monroe already...

It is a semi pro track I think though

Would be awesome to have a facility with a nascar track and a nice drag strip to get an NHRA national event here

Even the wine country of Sonoma, California has NASCAR and NHRA drag racing.

is that a2 team still there?
Nope. They moved the team to New Orleans and it's now the New Orleans Voodoo.

Shreveport does, however, have a new pro basketball team that plays in the Hirsch Coliseum (what a piece of shite that place is). From watching the local sports news, I have seen only about 20 people in the crowd at home games, so I doubt they last another season.

NASCAR took a look at NO East several years ago where jazz land/6 flags is. Rumor has it that the local politicians explained how things were going to work to the Nascar group taking a look at the site. They immidately headed back to their plane and never looked back.

Not a true southern state. I worked in north Georgia for a while and had clients in Tennessee. Most of them classified Louisiana as it's own little state, almost like an island. The Carolina's, Georgia and Tennessee are simply more southern than Louisiana.

Why would this preclude Louisiana from having a NASCAR track? As usual, this board is terrible with causation vs. correlation.

The following places also have NASCAR tracks:

Sonoma, CA (wine country)
Southern Cali
Ontario, Canada
New Hampshire
Chicago suburbs
South Florida
Delaware
Vegas
Michigan
Wisconsin

Surely some of these places are less redneck and less Southern than Louisiana? Just maybe there are other factors at play.

Why not here? Mostly due to our low ranking in national TV/media market size. LA politics -- whether perceived or real -- doesn't help, either.

On the other hand it's not really due to a lack of a fan base. The Dallas and Talladega tracks both spend good money to advertise their events on LA TV and radio. When I worked in NOLA radio, 'Dega reps directly told us that Louisiana was their second-highest state (behind AL, duh) in terms of attendance and interest.

and neither one is overly redneck, outside of the smaller towns around each city

for one its not just a redneck sport, there are nascar tracks in Kansas , California , Delaware ,new Hampshire , Nevada and plenty other places other than the south....

to answer the op question its because people in Louisiana are miserable and never satisfied....(just read tigerdroppings for proof)

not to mention stupid , I mean what other state would elect a thief as a governor for four terms..

this state has shite the bed on so many opportunities to bring in big business...

for some reason our politicians and citizens don't understand the concept that you may have to spend money to make money , so shite just stays the same around here while other parts of the country continue to grow and leave us behind to our backwards thinking....

New York and Pennsylvania have NASCAR tracks as well.

The answer, however, is because NASCAR sees no point in expanding to a region that is within reasonable driving range from Talladega and Dallas. NASCAR wants to expand into the northwest.

There is a first class private track North of Baton Rouge owned by the government but you can't use it. It's for government people only.
