Why do we have a poli board?

Not new, but why is the OT always filled with political threads. I've asked before but never been answered.

I think it's cute when the Political Board regulars try to graduate to the OT Lounge with threads featuring Facebook stories and memes that only a 65 year old shut in would find clever.

When I read the title to this thread, my first thought was, "yeah, keep that shite over there!" But the responses on the first page make total sense, and I do believe it's nice to talk about some of these issues without the Limbaugh/Hannity buttlickers.
