Why do some adults still participate in fraternity events?

I have some friends who are in their 30's and they are going on some retreat for their fraternity this weekend. I wasn't in a frat. Is continuing to participate in Greek activities after college a thing? Not hating, just curious.

We pay so much for our friends why not try to milk the investment?

If they are involved as an adviser or something similar then yes, they not only attend events, but have weekly meetings and other duties. For large events, many will go help.

Many participate on alumni boards (most nationals require them) and those usually in 30s or later get invited to events because they help financially (have money by that point) and now have free time to help out (usually kids are older).

There were several guys like this when I was in a fraternity. We all assumed they were gay. So I can only assume your friends are figs.

You're in a fraternity for life. Not all members stay involved after graduation, but many do. Just like LSU has Alumni Associations all over the country, my fraternity has Alumni Chapters.

It's not a frat retreat, just some awesome weekend they have planned. They didn't invite you and didn't want to hurt your feelings.

Sorry bro.

I think you're confusing a fraternity event with an Aggie yell leader reunion

Just spent a long weekend with my Greek friends from 35 years ago. I've tried to shake them, but they're just like family now.

nice to have elite friends if you were fortunate enough to be in an elite old south fraternity. if not, its just a bunch tourists on a bus... We enjoy society by the help and friendship of others.

I know very little about the frat life but can I throw out the suggestion that they do it to meet college age pussy?

I always thought the "frat for life" dudes were pretty douchey. I mean dude, we all liked to drink beer and chase strange in college. We weren't in some Knights Templar secret society.

We got accused of hazing once and they brought our advisors in to interview every brother individually. This tool kept being like "say the creed and then swear it" or "place your hand on the crest and then swear it". I was dying laughing. He didn't think that was funny.

Look, it's not like I'm wearing my membership pin on a daily basis or showing up on campus and lecturing the undergrads on the subtle nuances of ritual. I was merely making an observation that your "fraternity life" doesn't necessarily have to end at graduation. For some guys, it does. For others, it doesn't.

Our local alumni chapter meetings are once a month and largely an excuse to get together for dinner and have a couple of beers. Some business is conducted, but it's mostly social. I'm not particularly active. I probably make one or two alumni meeting a year and show up for the annual crawfish boil. But if I were ever in some type of financial jam, had medical problems in the family, needed a job, a favor or whatever; I have fraternity brothers who would help me. I graduated almost 30 years ago. I've been able to help out a few people over the years, and I know, given the opportunity, they'd do the same for me.
