Because it is a hell of a lot more convenient to stop there for a gallon of milk than to go into Wal-Mart or even the community grocery store.

It is like a small mini wal mart with trashier people and normally out in the sticks where nothing else is convenient. There is one near the lake house I will run out to if we were out of something.

There is one about a mile from my house... I love it!
Over the years, probably was over a hundred bathing suits came from DG for people wanting to swim at my house. They don't sell beer though.

That's the Dollar Store.

At Dollar General, everything is generally a dollar

Some do. The one on Ft. Morgan road in Gulf Shores saves me about 18 mile round trip into town. Has beer, ice, groceries.

I've shopped at both a bit and I don't find Dollar General more expensive than Wal Mart. Plus they have digital coupons which I find kinda cool for some crazy reason. And on most Saturdays they have a coupon (can get it digitally or it's on a receipt from anytime you shop there the week before) that is like $5.00 off of $25.00 purchase. Which often puts it below Wal Mart prices.

Though as many have said above a lot of people shop there because it is simply closer to where they live. It's like the local convenience store with Wal Mart prices. And yes I do sometimes see the foot traffic from nearby "low income" areas if there is one in the area.

Now, Winn Dixie and other grocery stores - that's a different matter.

it's like the people who shop at sams who assume they are getting good deals because of the bulk purchase. truth is most items at sams cost more than equivalent items at walmart.

No true at all.

At the one on Covington, the customers are equal parts millionaire/redneck/ghetto. Not joking. I've seen people shopping there that have literally millions in the bank on the reg.

Nobody thinks DG is any cheaper than WalMart or Target. Their only advantage location.

And nobody thinks Walmart is always cheaper, they're just convenient.

Everything's a dollar at Dollar Tree. It's the best for dishes and wine glasses.

Dollar Tree may be what you're thinking.

Good place for those Mylar balloons and bday party paraphernalia.

It's about 25 miles to town. There is a Dollar General at a crossroads about 10 miles away.

DG has weird off brand chips that I like to try. Like Hamm's and Larry the Cable Guy brand or something. Like to compare them with Frito-Lay products. ??
