Is it ignorance? Selfish desire for success? Why are athletes told to play through pain when research shows that doing so causes more damage and in lots of cases permanent harm to the body and mind?

Are we talking about playing through injury or playing through pain? Two COMPLETELY different subjects.

depends on the circumstances and the injury. I have been known to pull a player out of a game for precautionary purposes even when I knew it would lead to a potential loss.

There are athletes out there however who play the "injured" card to avoid workouts or practices.

If they fake injuries, suspend them. Likewise for players who play through pain. It hurts the team more than helps imo.

If you're a professional athlete or seriously hope to be one, then it's necessary. The last thing you want is to give some other guy an opportunity to do a better job than you did while you were healthy.

Below that level, I don't see any good reason to do it.

The same reason parents spend a bunch of money for their kid to play in all these travel leagues. They think its for the best.

That's pretty rare these days. Everyone wants to be a victim and to be seen as weak in need of protection. What better way to project weakness than feigning injury? Congrats op, you're part of the problem, and probably a huge pussy.

So if they are in pain, and want to continue to play, suspend them?
