Why can't any bars stay open on W. Chimes?

Seems like you could print money having a bar over there, but I guess not.

Parking issues?

I dunno, Slinky's has been open for a good while.

Maybe they rest have just all sucked.

Population is either underage or ghetto.

Neither are making you a ton of $$$.

Parking, Most people live on the other side of campus, only underage people live on campus within walking distance, and only a couple of apartment complexes are over there.

It was never the same after The Bayou burned down. After that, the bars there were lame and actually id'd people.

Tigerland and downtown are much more attractive areas for nightlife.

Why go to W.Chimes which has one bar when you can hit downtown and barhop all night?

No parking whatsoever and you could throw a rock and hit the hood.

I wish they could figure it out and that would be a row of bars for post LSU games.

The older crowd has Chimes right there that has one of if not the best beer selection in Baton Rouge

The newer crowd is in Tigerland

And the last bar on W. Chimes, Mahoney's, had bartenders that wanted nothing to do with customers they didn't personally know. Very shitty service for what could've been an awesome spot.

I thought things were looking up with Mahoneys and State Bar... Tigerland is trash and those places had much better drinks. Barcadia still rocks though.

Northgate was good. But the ATC start cracking down.

When the regulars bailed out, the crowds died.

This. I miss Mahony's. Although they should have changed a couple of things. Amazing how dirt cheap that place was.

Nowhere to park.

Also, when the drinking age was raised to 21, that instantly eliminated two-thirds of the prospective patrons...

shite.. even Massey's didn't even last around the corner. Mahoneys was open for less than a year I think. I remember the owner getting mad about the smoking regulations people were trying to pass (apparently you could smoke in there), and he was worried it would drive away business. Guess he's not worried about that anymore.

I had a business owner tell me the problem with all the Northgate places is that you have so many students leave town over the summer and Christmas break....that you basically have 9-10 months to make your money.
We go to the Chimes pretty regularly and maybe once every year or two we dip into Slinky's. Parking is just such a bitch kitty around there. It's worth putting up with it to go to The Chimes, the Varsity or Louie's, but not to just go and drink at Slinky's.
