Why are we not allowed to like an regime, movement, etc if they did a couple of bad things

I'm talking about things like the Confederate States, Nazi Germany, the Galactic Empire. Yeah they all were tied to some bad things but I don't agree with what they did. But at their foundation they were pure. I'm reminded of this meme:

I would say Soviet Russia but I just can't think of anything good that has ever come out of that shithole.

If I build another bridge across the Mississippi river outside of downtown Baton Rouge, ending the massive traffic problem, that would be considered a great thing. If I build the bridge so I can easily move 9 million people into death camps because I believe they aren't worthy of being alive, that's not a good thing. Any attempt to improve infrastructure in Nazi Germany was an attempt to make achieving genocide more convenient.
