Some lady tried to make my Wife, who is a Bleeding heart lib, try and feel sorry for her, and make my wife feel guilty for working hard, being an Honor student and then Straight A's all the way through her Masters from St.Louis U.

Finally my wife had enough and told the lady if she had worked hard, like she did, she might not be in the place or situation she was.

A tear came from my eye, my wife for that moment stopped being a bleeding heart liberal. Oh, it was just that moment, but it was great.

I have the wierdest boner.

Easy to say, impossible to fix. Education is the ticket out of poverty, and leaving poverty is the ticket away from crime.

You know I had to respond to this, right?

Affirmative Action is a necessity for our society due to the cultural biases and lack of opportunities of our country. However, we need to moderate it and make sure that individuals benefiting from it are productive.

Unfortunately this leads to a disparity since not everyone try to improve themselves

You are only helping the black argument of white created disparity, right? Forgot about the punish the slave for reading, stud the athletes side of the 1800's?

Get rid of AA, lower the amount of direct funding in public assistance, and invest in community-based organizations instead of bloated resource-eating programs like AA, and government-funded culture-saving. It's intrinsically divisive, and doesn't work.

We hardly have affirmative action any more. It needs to continue and it needs to be increased at the workplace level. You do see the income inequality we have in this country? It is appalling. In 20 years, we will be third world.

Affirmative Action is live and well, just watch the new Family Fued. It's always a white vs black family. 72% and 12% of the population, respectively.

I'll never understand why people complain about white parents putting their kids in private schools. Education and knowledge are found in text books and in good parents. It's a cultural problem that has to be fixed before we even tackle issues of equality.

So, white guilt should apply to this?

Disadvantages:
Doesn't address ongoing discrimination against blacks and latinos (which is real and still has economic effects).

The only discrimination going on in college acceptances are against whites. You had me right with you until your bogus arse statement there. By the way, poverty has very little to do with education, regardless of what some want to believe. I was raised very poor but performed very well in school. The schools in my area are mostly poor white kids, yet they are amongst the highest scoring schools in the state. Just maybe there is something else to it.

Are you trying to say that black scores are decidedly lower because they had no education 150 years ago? Hell, neither did most poor people in the south. The simple fact that most minority ran countries are still 3rd world and some small groups are even still living in a stone-aged way tells you something.

Caucasoid, Mongoloid, Negroid people et al have exhibited distinct character traits since the beginning of time. Not just the last few hundred years. That said an existence of a white created disparity toward blacks in America is undeniable. Both by the atrocities dealt toward them in the past and the disparity that is apparent now that was created in the name of "advancement". It's a screwed up deal, and in not trying to win any arguments. Just stating the facts as I see them.

I didn't read the replies, but this pisses me off.

More dropouts citing finances? bullshite. I'm taking on $25,000 in college loans to finish a degree that I have to complete while working with a full time job. For me, grants? Not eligible. Scholarships? Not eligible and don't have a sob story to win one. Any sort of assistance for me? frick no.

Do I just say frick it and blame somebody else? No. I know that I'm in the position I'm in because of decisions I've made.

Want to get ahead in life? Respect everyone with the level of respect they deserve, kiss a little arse now and again, and do your fricking job. Stop worrying about color, creed, and religion and half of this entitlement bullshite on both sides goes away.
