All of my standard office/shop jobs have started at 8:00am or earlier.
Did it really come from the movie to help the rhyme?

I work 9-5. Occasionally I’ll have a late or early meetings with colleagues in emea or apac

I think it had to do with shift work back in the day.

Technically my hours are 8-5 but I sometimes work a few hours at night/some on Sundays and what not. My job is very flexible and I greatly appreciate that.

Probably from post WWII Wall St (NYSE closes at 4) and MadAve, the John Cheever Gray Flannel Suit Stop at Willoughby World

Does it come from the old bank hours traditionally being 9-5?

Only lazy folk I know that don't show up to work until 9am are the same types to stick hair on the shower wall

I get to work 745-8 and leave about 530. I also do charts at home every weeknight from about 8-10

Those used to be called “banker” hours.

How old are you?
The 9-5 concept has been around as long as I remember, long before that movie came out, but I don't know of many places that actually had those hours.
The modern 9-to-5, eight-hour workday was invented by American labor unions in the 1800s and went mainstream by Henry Ford in the 1920s.

The idea of 9 to 5 being a standard workday comes from the years just after World War II, during a high in the economy when many people worked 9 to 5 with their lunch being counted as part of the workday.

Sometimes I start earlier or finish later, but 8:45 to 5:30 or 6:00 is pretty common for me.

Our morning shifts were always either 4-12:30, 6-2:30, or 8-4:30.
No one ever wanted a hour lunch.
