Let's use President Taft as the nadir of Presidential physical fitness,

who would be on the opposite end of the scale?

Most physically fit WHILE president or in general?

In general, Gerald Ford has to be up there. Played football for University of Michigan and had some offers to play in the pros.

While president, it'd have to be Jimmy Carter and George W Bush. Barack Obama seemed in decent shape despite being a smoker, though I think he quit early in his first term.

At least in modern history. No idea prior to the 50's.

Both Bushes were fit. JFK looked fit but was probably 80 on the inside. Obama was lean, but like a woman. Lincoln hunted vampires, so I'd go with him.

Doesn't matter. Dude dueled Dickinson and took a lead ball to the chest. He responded by raising his arm snd killing his opponent.

JFK at his prime is up there, but his back was wrecked while president. There were days he couldn't even stand up.

I've read several bios and they all agree that he was a sickly asthmatic child. I've always wondered if his tough guy image wasn't mostly a PR creation planted in a friendly NY media.

Reagan & Teddy Roosevelt. Both took bullets to the chest and survived--only US Presidents who were shot in office and lived.

Tiebreaker goes to Teddy--gave a 84 minutes speech right after being shot and carried the bullet around in his chest for the rest of his life.
