How does the island maintain enough prey for all of those snakes to survive?
I remember watching a survival show where they point out that a lot of those tiny islands are completely overrun with mice/rats due to early exploration and trade ships dropping them off. I would assume this place has a similar setup, but with the rat population much more in check.
I'm more intrigued with how the snake population took off. I'd assume they must have swim to the island?
Eta: just saw the bird explanation, which would also make sense.

The island is 430,000 square meters (~ 106 acres) in size and the snake population is estimated to be 4,000.
That's not one snake every three feet. That's 37 snakes per acre. Probably not sustainable from a food source standpoint.
Still, could you imagine floating from a shipwreck and seeing that island and thinking you were saved?

Isn't it an Island in the South Pacific where Sea Snakes go to mate?
eta:Wrong Island. This one's off Brazil and is off limits because of the deadly Golden Lancehead Viper.

Yep, no way there is ample food supply for anywhere close to one snake per square meter. The snakes would simply eat each other. Once had an aquarium with around 16 baby blue runners in it, and they tried to eat each other pretty regularly.

They do eat each other and there is tons of bugs there that the young ones eat. They mainly eat birds though.
