I agree when I first started with deadlifts I was too wide....brought it in and now feels much smoother.
99% of people I work with arent looking to improve their 1RM. Nearly all our hinging movements are done with the hex bar. Better shoulder position (helps "attach" the lats). Too many people try to grab a barbell and just start lifting. It's one of the hardest things to teach because many want to fall into a squat or lead with knees. Or they can't "hinge" & don't maintain neutral spine.

Rule #1 - if you can't lay flat on your back, legs straight & alternately raise each leg(straight arse an arrow) to about 50-60 degrees off the floor...your arse ain't ready to DEADLIFT

Well Mr. All Knowing ... i should call it a day then. I might as well quit squatting while I'm at it!

(Even though for my body weight I'm probably in the top 5% of society, have great form and never had a serious injury from lifting)

I mean, who can't do this?

Me. I've always been a tight person. No flexibility.

My body has apparently adapted because I'm never injured.

It's not my rule, it's this thing called science. Just sayin. If you can't do that, you have some limitations in the pattern that prolly need to be addressed. 5% of society? Being strong has zero to do with that. Perfect form? Ok. Never had an injury? Good, keep it that way.

That's because of all of your elastic band training.

I just played with my technique forever. I also have the luxury of 3 full time strength coaches watching me every damn day.

People have problems doing this?

Their arses would benefit more from substituting a few yoga sessions a week rather than lifting.

same here. Not only am I "tight", I'm also asymmetrical (left side is much worse). I can get it there. But it takes a 10 minutes of SMR before I start. But I'm frickin old. I ain't young like you young bucks
