We walked around by the paddock and under the stands most the day we ventured to the infield and walked around for a hour or so but it was bourbon st crowded so we didn't stay out there long (record crowd that day)..now had I not had the wife with me and been on a bachelor party I would have stayed out there it was a shite show. but we smoaked cigars drank lilies and juleps and watch the A-listers walk in. Trust me if this is a bachelor party for someone less than 40 years old save your money and get the infield tickets that is where the party is. I was with my wife and a group of friends and it was a great time. We all dressed up and did the whole bit. I would say 90 percent of the people on the infield were dressed up. There were a few no shirt nascar looking folks but not many.

Went in 73 or 74. On the infield. Had the good sense not to bet on Secretariat the year he won the triple crown. Saw a brief flash of brown during the race. Action on the infield was like Mardi Gras from what little I remember

Skip the infield if you care about the race. Last time I went was back in 2011 when Animal Kingdom won, it's just one big party. Not much of a police presence in the infield(well not when I was there) so it gets really wild. Couldn't see any of the race and didn't find out who won until about 10 minutes later(didn't have any cell service).
You'll have to pay a little extra but the grandstands are worth it.

Man the infield is perfect for a bachelor party.

This all day. I have been six times . The ages range from older teenagers to people in their 60s. I would say about the average age is 20 to 30. There are married people and usually groups of out of towners . There are a number of frat boys but they tend to be around the third turn . I would steer clear of setting up your tarp and blanket in that area. It's definitely something you should experience at least once . If you do go on the infield I would get there at about 10 to 11 AM definitely not past 1 PM. That way you have a better choice of where to set up camp. I think the first race starts about 1030 and the derby itself runs at about 630 Louisville time .

I think it is a euphemism for Decadence weekend in New Orleans.

I guess I'm the only person here who actually cares about the race
I did just spend an hour watching past performances of the horses in the derby prep this weekend.

I care about the race, which is why I recommend the grandstand. Infield just isn't my thing.

I've been, but I've gone to Keeneland far more (I live a couple miles from the track in Lexington). I've enjoyed myself much more at Keeneland than at the Derby. Much lower key, easier to bet, easier to park, just makes for a more relaxed day.
The Derby was fun, we were in the infield. Common misconception, you definitely CAN see the track from the infield, but you've got to get there at a decent time to get a spot. Setting up in a corner is the best place, you get to see a large swatch of the track from when the horses enter the turn to when they exit.

I've been and think it's a great idea for a weekend bachelor party.
