Just received word last night at my buddy's super bowl party that he wants me to be his best man at his wedding. I am truly honored. This is a great responsibility. I will be spearheading a bachelor party where we will be going to the KY derby. I've never been and am pumped. I was thinking about visiting some bourbon distilleries as well as a strip club... any recommendations OT baws??

I'll be there Preakness weekend for the bourbon tour and other stuff. We'll likely get a suite and enjoy race day on Saturday.

Infield was awesome. My friends and I went a few years back (when Eight Bells was euthanized after the race) and were on the infield for the whole day. Its a fricking party. You can walk around to the paddocks and everything and hob knob with the big wigs if you want, but you can also throw down. Think tickets were like $40 too.

Well worth it, and if youre going on a bachelor party it would be a good time.

We may actually be doing it again this year for the same reason...

I love the KY Derby song version

weep no more today!
We will sing one song for the old Bukkake home

Ive been 3 times. Friday you can either do the bourbon trail, or kentucky oaks. both are fun. makers throws a hug party that friday. we also hit heaven hill and jim beam, but correctly spent more time at makers of the 3. airbnb close to bardstown road as possible, it's where the bars are at.

I've done both the infield and grandstands on Sat. They are both fun but complete opposites of eachother haha. Think spring break panama city beach when you think infield lol.

I went two years ago it was the best sporting event I've ever been to. We got to see American pharaoh along with the rest of them less than 10 feet away with infield tickets. The only place you cannot go with infield tickets is in the actual stands. It was a great time. On the way home we went to Jim beam makers mark and jack Daniels.. Makers was the best then Jim.. Jack was too modernized to me. Jim and makers were Beautiful places

I knew you'd be in this one, Aspy. I'm jealous that you've been to Churchill Downs. Have you gotten to Saratoga yet?

Yes, but I was put to work on my vacation. Ended up hot walking, grooming, and helping run horses

Was there Whitney weekend in 2015.

I had great seats in 2013 and won't go back without good seats again.

It's a blast, but I still prefer a day at keeneland.

I need to hit del mar next.

My suggestion would be to go party in the infield for the Kentucky Oaks on Friday, and then suit up and go to the stands on Saturday. The infield is as good as Mardi Gras and a NASCAR tailgate combined....you will see it all in there, but the view of the races is far from good.

Damn. It's not CD, but it's a great track. I hope you get back and have a chance to enjoy it.

It's beautiful. First glimpse I had of the grandstand was walking a horse over to the holding barn. It took my breath away. I'd love to go back.

Ftr, CD is kind of a shithole. They just dress it up real nice a week a year. They don't really care about any of their tracks.

How old are you?

Be prepared to fork over some cash (like $300 to $400 or more) if you don't want to sit in the infield. I wouldn't do the infield if I were older than about 25, but that's personal preference. Also, hit up a distillery or two early Friday and then try to hit up the Kentucky Oaks in the afternoon.

Stay near Bardstown Road, East Market Street, St. Matthews, or Clifton (my preference would be in that order). Definitely Airbnb if you can. A lot of great restaurants in the city (especially in the Highlands near Bardstown Road), but you'll have to make reservations soon if you want to find a solid spot that night.

Try to arrange transportation to and from the track as soon as possible.

Get flights if you must as soon as possible as well. Tickets are expensive for that weekend. If any of you can drive, it makes things a lot easier if your group has at least one car.

It's become more logistically difficult because of demand, but all that said, you definitely have to experience it at least once in your life. Nothing else quite like it.

Um, this is hard to explain, but I never saw a live horse the whole time I was there (got in mid-morning on Saturday on the infield).

No, you had the normal infield experience. Though we've been lucky the last few years with derby weather, so you probably didn't have to deal with the mud antics
