Ocoee is the obvious answer here. I'm pretty sure that where they did the Olympic sports when it was held in Atlanta?

I believe we stop spilling O3H for the olympic course late this month for rafters. You can still do below O2H in October, I believe.

Ocoee. Nantahala for kids. Upper Big Pigeon is a middle option if close to Gatlinburg.

If you have kids or really old people with you look at the Nantahala. If you want to have a pretty decent time with a lot of people around, hit up the Ocoee. I would look at the Nantahala Outdoor Center (NOC.) They have outposts on most of the major rivers in the area. Tell them DW6Pack sent you.
I ran the Ocoee a few weeks ago & had a great time. We didn't use a commercial outfit though.

I once did a class 4 with a high river in Costa Rica. Man, that was rough. I thought I was going to die.

Chattooga on the GA-NC border. Longer than the Ocoee, more options. NOC operates trips.

I've got a sandal somewhere in the Ocoee
Fell out of the boat a couple of times on that trip, guide decided he wanted to surf some rapid and as soon as we got in place the water started pouring in to my seat and I was gone.

For an authentic E Tennessee whitewater experience try the Smokey Mountain River Rampage at DollyWood.

High Country also does a great job on the Ocoee. They have cabins on site that sleep 6-8 as well. It really is the best in Tenn. for strictly rafting.
The best in the East is The Upper/lower Gauley in West Va. During September weekends when the ACE is releasing the water behind Summerville Dam. It is a 10 hour, 27 mile trip. Highly recommend this trip to anyone who wants to try a big step up from the Ocoee, Chatooga,etc..

Ocoee for sure...I was a guide on the Ocoee and Pigeon back in 2005.
Pigeon is quick, Ocoee has more rapids and last a little longer.

I've done the Nanatahala a couple of times. It was good fun.
Expect the water to be quite chilly.

Ocoee is a bit faster.
Nantahala is colder.
Chatooga if you want to do an overnighter.
Wear a wet suit!
