Meridian has that cool spooky old "skyscraper." If you get off the Interstate and drive up to it, it's really depressing because it looks like it's been empty for about 20 years.

Threefoot building. Sad story, building was completed right in time for the great depression, the Threefoot family that built it went broke. It was the tallest building in Mississippi back then. Wiki page about the building

ETA: the 16 story building was purchased for $10,000 cash in 2016

Spent plenty of money there. Makes you realize how poor MS really is when you see the prices in there

Other than maybe the Mississippi Gulf Coast, is there any internet accessible Mississippi city (town, county, hamlet) that is not depressing?

I have a few friends that live in Natchez. While I'd never want to live there, it's not a bad place to visit for a weekend.

Stopping once in Greenwood, MS was the only time I've felt unsafe inside a Walmart Supercenter.

You have obviously never been to Greenville, MS. It's worse.

The only good thing about Meridian is that it has a Sam's, Chickfila and Popeyes and is about the only decent place to stop for gas between Tuscaloosa and Slidell

Is there a nice city in Mississippi? At least Alabama has mobile and Birmingham.

Once I was walking to the courthouse in Port Gibson and I was the only guy on the street wearing shoes.

Petal isn't a bad place, and what I've seen of Hattiesburg has been decent.
