With the proper obedience training, just about any of the breeds posted can meet your needs. Kennel/crate training is a must.

That being said, Black Mouth Cur. Never owned one, but have plenty of friends that have them. Wonderful dogs.

Saw a connent that a Labrador wascto large for your requirements. Considefva British Labrador. They are generally 1/4 to 1/3 smaller than American Labs. Also, and again generally, they are calmer and more docile than American Labradors. Mine would meet all of your requirements!

NO NO NO. We have a Black Mouth Cur. She's a fricking a-hole. Never had a problem training any dog I've ever had. This one is a goddamn pain in the arse.

ETA: We also have a Pit/Lab mix, and she fits your criteria way better than the Black Mouth Cur. I'm not telling you to get a Lab, a Pit, or a mix, btw. Just telling you how tough the Black Mouth Cur has been at times.

I use to run my roommate's shorthair all the time. The dog was in good shape particularly during hunting season.

They great dogs but they have a ton of energy. Need to work them daily or they will get pent up

They shed a frick ton too. You will have that wire hair all over the place

Might as well get a German Wirehaired Pointer (I have one). Brittanys Spaniels are super cool

Golden ( if small enough)
Aussie
Border collie

Rescue dog if you feel like it. But if you want a pure bred, go for it. I have five rescues, one dog I paid a boat load of money for. All different breeds.
They are all great.

Catahoula/Aussie/Border Collie

Or just go and rescue a mutt.

/thread

Also if you go the catahoula route you'll get the added bonus of a good guard/protective dog. My catahoula mix is ~40 lbs and have seen him hold his own with dogs 30-40 lbs heavier (only when dogs are being dickheads at the park).

Have two and they are fantastic.

Really depends on what price OP is willing to pay. The red merle was $1600 and the black tri was $1200.

I enjoyed our sheltie growing up. Good dog all around.

Ours was either not a pure bred or a monster, because he was well into the 30lb to 40lb range.

I would said WTF, but a family member adopted one. The dog is a GIANT, but supersweet and superLAZY. Just wants a few good laps around a yard a day, then its couch time for the rest of the day. Really cool breed.

Aussies tend to be one person dogs (and my Aussie is definitely my dogs).

Border Collies would be better for a lot of kids.
