I've heard Thai people are very friendly (insert ladyboy joke) and I have heard some bad stories about how Americans are treated in cities like Beijing. Wouldn't mind flying around Asia one day and exploring.

I loved Thailand. I hear Cambodia is cool. I didn't like Indonesia but it has been awhile. I think of China as more of East Asia but my parents lived in Hong Kong and loved it.

Yep Thailand and Cambodia both cool to Americans. Southern Vietnamese also pretty friendly. Singaporeans as well. Indonesians are very nice people on the surface but a lot do not like Westerners.

Thai and Khmer (Cambodian) people are both very kind, happy, and generous even though most have little.

Really want to visit Vietnam and Philippines.

ETA: visiting SE Asia and seeing the people made me really sad for America and Americans in general. We have so much and are so unhappy. Made me not want to come back...

They also don't eat dogs, unlike the vile Northerners.

I've visited over 25 countries. Taiwan is the most genuinely kind nation I've ever been.

Very friendly to Americans and very easy to travel around and communicate.

Not exactly Southeast Asia.

I've worked in Bangkok, Beijing, Manila, Phnom Penh and Hanoi and the people in every city have treated me very cordially.

Hanoi was probably a little friendlier mainly because when I was there Americans were still a bit of a novelty.....I mean since after we stopped bombing them.

My take on last time I was in Beijing...most polite rude people I've ever seen. So polite on the surface, but in the end unrelentingly a-holes. They used polite gestures to obfuscate their real intention.

I'm a black American who has visited Beijing. People stared and I didn't speak the language, but that was pretty much it.
