I did 4 10s for a few years. I'm back to 5 8s and I don't miss 10s. I like having more free time each day.

I've been working 4-10s for most of my career. I work 5:30 - 4:00. Plenty of free time each day.

I work 8-4ish M-T and half days Friday with an hour for lunch most days. I can't complain about these hours.

I worked 4-12's about 20 years ago. I enjoyed it, 8 hours of OT guaranteed every week and still 3 days off. You could even come in on any of your off days and make more OT if you wanted. Only issue was that it was a night shift.

One guy on our shift worked EVERY DAY, 12 hours shifts. He did have 8 kids(w/ the same woman) so I'm sure he needed the money. I highly doubt she worked. The only day the plant was closed was on Christmas Day. He jumped the gate and worked a 12 that day too.

That's something only large companies could pull off and make it work. Someone's always going to be working Fridays.

I'd like to see 4 day work weeks and all retail closed on Sundays like it used to be.

I wish this were the case with me. I do much more work on Fridays. Seems like everyone is trying to get last minute things done so it means more work for me. Monday and Tuesday are pretty dead for me though

that's because it's the day before the weekend, not because it's a fifth day of work. if we go to a 4 day work week, the day that most folks dont do much will just become Thursday.

four day work week is a commie fricking wet dream. less work accomplished for the same pay. workers paradise!

gtfo.

edit to add - today is a perfect example actually. we're off tomorrow and monday for juneteenth. so by this mythical hyper efficient four day work week, we should all be plugging away getting all kinds of shite done today right? hell no, this building is already empty.

This won't really work for everyone.

Correct, it won't work for everyone the same way a 5-day work week doesn't work for everyone.

Retail and food service get screwed no matter what, but those are typically part-time jobs with the exception of management.

Logistics, transportation, and emergency services shouldn't be in the discussion because they've never had set schedules.

The vast majority of blue-collar and white collar can easily switch to 4-10s. I've even seen some white collar switch to 4-8s (with 40 pay) and be just as successful. At 4-8s with 40 pay, you are attracting the attention of A-player talent.

Blue collar is harder to move to 4-8s because things have to physically be made/installed/constructed/whatever, and those things typically take a set amount of time. 4-10's work really well for blue-collar.

I moved my manufacturing to 4-10s because I hypothesized it would improve throughput. I had done a little research on flow-state and how it applied to 4-10s, and it seemed like a good thing to try. A few of the old-school managers below me had their doubts, but they're now converts now that they've seen how much more we can get done and have three-day weekends (not to mention no more overtime Saturdays to catch-up). You can set up and run for longer times. It allows you to get in the groove and stay at peak output for longer periods of time. I've received feedback that 10 hour shifts feel shorter than 8 hour shifts because you get into the zone and forget about time.

I have not moved my installation division to 4-10s yet. I just have to train my commercial contractors that we will not be on-site on Fridays without any hit to their schedules. I have one good contractor I am trialing it on. Again, longer stretches help us get in to better grooves with the work. For my residential customers, it's just a matter of telling them we don't work on Fridays and to deal with it.

I am not familiar with how your behavioral health offices are set up, but I'd imagine there is a way to make four days work without any hit to your backlog.

Why don’t you just suggest 40hr/week, and it doesn’t matter how many days it takes?

The issue is you are only worried about your 40hr/week. Nobody is forcing you to work there. If your job is so bad get another job where you enjoy it. Then you could focus on doing a great job, and not how you get your 40hr/week.

I honestly don't know anyone that works a standard 5 80 schedule anymore

Either they work 4 10s, 4 9s and a half on Friday or a 9 80 schedule

And these are all white collar jobs

We do summer hours... Fridays are supposed to be "half days," but the reality is people don't give a frick if you take it off if you fulfill your obligations. As it should be. Why punish someone for working harder for a few days to get the same amount of work done?

If a farmer plants a field a few hours faster than planned, is the field not planted? Hitch the boat up and head to the lake...

Sounds to me like yall are way over staffed. The work I do is mandatory for things to keep running. If I am efficient and dont get sidetracked I can do it in 30 or so hours a week. I own the company so the actual work is a touch different. But I routinely work my guys 4 day weeks. It is better for me, them and the company.

I dont agree, I get as much done as I can in the first four, Monday is rolling like a steam roller usually prior to me getting my second cup of coffee down.

Again, some are in industry that this does not apply. But many could easily work 4 day weeks, and I dont even care if they are 10 hour days. We pay our employees 40 no matter what, most of the time they get in 36 or so.

You cant get decent people if you dont guarantee the hours.

Commie paradise? Are you serious. Saying that everyone must work 5 day weeks to conform versus demonstrating industriousness and efficiency and getting more done in less time to enjoy your life? Which is more solcialist or communist? Getting things done used to be an American hallmark.
