Seems like with all the foolishness, now would be a good time. The future mayor of St. George should look into building a wall

St. George is probably growing in landmass at this point. Some areas are going to want to come on over.

Going to be moving out there soon. Going to enjoy voting no.

Didn't you hear? North Baton Rouge is the one separating itself. They don't want to give y'all anymore of their money and tax dollars.

The mall would be a huge source of revenue and we all know they're getting pummeled right now with the current economic boycott

I think it's 49 weeks until they can start another petition drive.

I would expect they would get the requisite number of signatures within about 2 months.

This bullshite, coupled with the moron who will win the Mayor's race (regardless of race), will get people dying to bail from this dumpster fire

The mall was annexed by Baton Rouge over a year ago.

ST George gets enough signatures without a doubt (even though they actually already did last time) if these protests happen back when they were trying to get them.

Chances are they'll get enough if they try again.

What if Mr. St. George "Bodi" wins?

There is no bailing to St. George anyway. Still in EBR Parish and the Mayor is still the President of the Parish too. So you can create St. George and get another level of government over you and still be at the mercy of the Metro Council and Mayor President.

Change the City-Parish form of government and then you're on to something.

Why not? This is basically the underlying reason why the organizers and many regular citizens wanted to incorporate.

Such as yourself apparently. None of the department stores joined the annexation.

Half of the Mall was annexed or something close to that.

At one time they had enough, but several hundred citizens changed their minds and withdrew their signatures.

So yes there was a point in time I believe they had enough.

Yes, but the stores which were not annexed into the city are surrounded by land which is now within the city limits.

To be part of the future City of St. George, the land must be contiguous and as a result the department stores in the MoL will remain in unincorporated EBR where the City of Baton Rouge can continue to "reallocate" the tax revenue to fund the city budget.

And if they tried to annex themselves into st George who would be the proper party to challenge their annexation? That was st George's problem when they tried to file a suit challenging the other mall annexations based in part on the interpretation of "contiguous" land that you referenced.

Eta: not that I think that the anchor stores would want to join st George if they could, just saying for the sake of argument.
