1958-1959 IMO. Every year should be so great!

1945. We could have at that point taken over the entire world.

I have always wondered that...should we have just taken over the entire world? Imagine what it would be like.

after WW II
Most countries capable of engineering were flat broke
we didn't have much competition for a decade.

1990s. The Soviet Union fell and left us as the only superpower. We had a booming economy. Rising middle class incomes, 23 million new jobs.
We were strong in relative terms after WW2 because Japan and Europe were a giant debris field, a large part of the world was still under colonial rule, and another large part was being held back by communism.

Don't listen to the news. America, as of today, is the most advanced nation in the history of this world. It is not even close, really. We would frick up 1940s America. Those assholes would be dominated by nerds with drones.

The general feeling was that we could not have defeated USSR at the time. Army for Army...WE just value human life too much...They lost I think 20 million in the war and really didn't blink.
Our style and philosophy of government did not lend itself to colonialism either. One reason that the Bretton Woods free trade was begun in 1944...
