I've been a few times, but I didn't grow up in Monroe, even though alot of my family is here.
The one summer I was "in Monroe" would have probably been like 1987 maybe? My cousin was a Kappa Sig at Tech, but he had a ton of Monroe friends.
One of his friends (and this story may give it away as to who he is) grandmother's had a house on the bayou. His grandmother was gone to Europe all summer, so we had legendary parties at "Granny's" house all summer long. Seriously, the biggest chore of the day was arguing about who was going to fill the ski boat up w/gas. There was a 500 gallon gasoline tank that we had to get the gas from, and walk it to the boat 5 gallons at a time.
Anyway, this kid - the kid who's grandmother owned the house - had no cash. So, the deal was, we all took turns buying his drinks when we went out (which was every night....was either Sal's, or I think it was Shinanigans at the time - I can't even remember where it was, but it was possibly where 6th street is now), and in return, we partied at his grandmother's house, used her boat, her gas, and oh, he would load up like 10 ppl in the boat, take us to Bayou Desiard CC, and sign a lunch ticket every day too.
Was a great summer.

You, sir, win this thread.
Can't take credit for it. Was a friend. Man, I KNOW someone on this board had to have seen that fight.
The story was already long, so I left out a couple of details, but seriously, it was as deserved an asswhipping as I'd ever seen.

I guess about 10 years unless I'm forgetting a scuffle since.
Man, I hate fighting, until I'm fighting...then I love it. After the adrenaline wears off I hate it again. I don't think I've ever started a fight in my life, but I was probably a little too willing to get into it at least a few times.

I am actually going to my first boxing class this week. I am an old fart but I think it will be fun and the cardio will be great. I am going to a boxing gym and not some health club so this won't be some class run by a woman.
That's awesome. What town are you in? I boxed out of the gym in WM for years. It is excellent cardio and once you learn to start putting together combinations and get your footwork down, your confidence will soar.
Jump rope, shadowbox, speed bag, heavy bags, work some mits. I would be cautious about sparring.

I know I am nowhere near ready to spar. My son has boxed, and wrestled, for a few years so I have the advantage of having watched him. I know that does nothing for muscle memory but at least it is something. I would like to have one fight in the ring before I keel over so I am goign to make a go of it. This gym is in Jefferson Parish and is boxing only.

2007 VT game at tiger stadium. Some guy started pushing my 60yo dad. I whipped his arse good. I was 25.

Bar fight when I was 22(34 now). It's when I learned that beer bottles are more likely to bounce off a skull than shatter. I have no urge to fight anymore, and even if I did I have pins in my knuckles now, and they would break straight away.
I'm surprised at how many people have never been in a fight. Seems like everyone I knew growing up had been in at least one. I guess my school was shitty.

Oh snap, I was a Kappa Sig from NorfEast and know an arse load of Kappa Sigs from Tech. In fact, probably the entire Chapter from 1990 on since my buddy was one over there, but in 87 I was still in high school.

Yeah, I'd always thought you were a tad younger than me. I bet we know a bunch of the same folks though.

That's a great goal. I boxed as a youth and have been training ground stuff and MT for about 7 years now. I coach some and train with some guys that are pro MMA guys but I have never had a desire to get into a cage until now. I think I am gonna pull that trigger this year.

I agree. I used to loveto fight when I was a young man although i had no formal training. My son is a boxer and a wrestler and he has no desire to fight anyone outside of the ring. One kid forced him into a fight a year ago and my boy broke the kids nose after making every attempt not to fight. I guess the ones who really know what they are doing have nothing to prove. I thought I was billy bad arse as a kid and have the scars on my face to prove it

I get in fights all the time but it's never my fault!

You are far ahead of me. I have no training of any kind. My son's former Ju Jitsu instructor was in UFC 3 many moons ago. I figure I am too old to learn all of the grappling so I am going to stick with boxing.

Wrestlers. Do not frick with. Tough as nails with excellent wind. They never gas. This combo is lethal.

It began to be less fun at 18 or so, when real damage started to happen.

Get started in boxing and just try BJJ after you get your boxing base established. You will love it. Seriously I am 42 and still roll with 20 somethings.

Looks like a beta filled thread.
Seriously. If someone has never been in a fight I can say with 100% certainty that they are a pussy and a pushover. No offense to you guys but Jesus Christ, how does it feel knowing you NEVER stood up for yourself?
