No, just confused. I'm wondering why I can't go back for a BS in biology being that I already have a BGS in Biology. That's what I was told by the Dept. Chair.

you can. you must not have expressed your question correctly

You basically have 3 minors.

No "real" concentration. Just a few generalized concepts. That's what a general studies degree is. It's not a free pass to call one of your minors your major. Good grief.

You didn't choose wisely. Sorry, but it is what it is. You can go back, or make the best of it you can.

I have had countless arguments with people by saying my degree is in Biology and they counteract saying my degree is in General Studies.

I only read the first page, but what in the frick?
I did general studies because it was my only way to get out. You minor in 3 courses so I guess one of your minors was biology. You certainly DID NOT get a degree in biology. Your degree IS general studies with minors.

Well on a side note can you get into grad school with a BGS?

Be sure to attach a copy of this thread to your resume so potential employers know what they are getting.

You don't think saying you just have a general studies degree is just as misleading/informative as saying you have a biology degree?

Well, one's the truth and one isn't. You don't have a degree in Biology, you minored in Biology.

why do people with BGS's have to say theirs is in General Studies?

Not going to go back and read all 13 pages of this thread, but my degree was in General Studies. There's no way to be more specific about it. When I graduated LSU in December '99, the General Studies degree required you to have 3 minors to satisfy the General Studies major.

I did see someone on the first page ask what you do when you graduate with a BGS...for me it was get commissioned as a 2LT in the USAF and go to Navigator training. Almost 15 years later I'm a Lt Col select and Director of Operations (second in command for those unfamiliar) at the B-52 Weapons School. Not trying to brag with that, just saying the degree did not hurt me in any fashion.

Nobody cares that I have a degree in History with a minor in Political Science, neither do I.

There are several pages of posts that beg to differ.

And I'm fairly certain you're the one missing your argument.

Started college at Tulane at 17 and graduated at 20 with triple major in history, philosophy and political science thinking wanted to know what world used to be about and should and could be about with idea of some day making a difference. 40 years later haven't accomplished much other than helping a few folks along the way and raising the best 2 kids anybody could ever wish for. But since first born El Josey Wales died in December at age 35 none of that curiosity about what this million year old world is all about amounts to a hill of beans . The present with people you care about is the best it ever gets so try to appreciate every day of that as much as you can because it can end way before you planned.
