No, I said my concentration hours consisted of 30 hours of bio. That doesn't included required classes such as natural science courses

holy shite man, look at the degree audit.

There are a minimum of 36 hours in just Bio courses.

Your damn nat science course doesn't count on top of that 30.

30<36<120(required total hours)

Ok, I have a Biology degree from South Alabama. My diploma says Bachelor of Science. (Because Biology is a Science). It would also say Bachelor of Science if I had a degree in Chemistry. (Because chemistry is a science). Biology is a degree, just as general studies is a degree. Apparently there is a biology concentration in general studies, but it doesn't cover the requirements for a Bio degree. It just covers enough credits to be considered a "concentration." That's the only way I can explain it.

I got a classical language concentration with a BGS. I knew I was going to law school, and the history curriculum was too constrictive. So I fashioned a schedule that would help me most in law school: Latin, English literature, symbolic logic, economics, and business. It worked.

But you don't go around claiming to be a Classics Major, do you?

Yes, I agree. That is a BS in Biology. As stated earlier, a BS degree encompasses a variety of science classes like chemistry and physics. But being my degree is General Studies and I have taken more than 30+ hours (similar to a BS degree) in Biology that does not register it as a Biology degree, just in General Studies?

There's that.

I knew quite a few Classics Majors who used their field to get into Law School. I minored in Classics, FWIW.

Vale, frater.

On second thought, I guess I should have used Salve.

Would it be frater or fratrem? I'm pretty rusty.

I mean, you can say whatever you want. When someone asks what degree you have, they almost always mean what did you major in. A concentration is not the same as a major. So if you say you have a biology degree, you'll clearly be misleading them, so don't be surprised if they mock you for it. But if you feel that strongly about it, there's no law that says you can't claim to have biology degree.

Are you asking the difference between a BS/BA/AD etc?

Loved me some Plautus. Virgil was pretty good.

As someone who is about to graduate in general studies I tell people this and they give me a look of sympathy. I think its hilarious. About to go offshore and make some bank bro.

I just don't understand the meaning of having concentrations for General Study degrees then. I mean you take an allotted amount of classes your degree is suppose to focused on to end up saying you have a General Studies degree.

You don't think saying you just have a general studies degree is just as misleading/informative as saying you have a biology degree?

IIRC, non-bio majors actually take easier versions of comparable science classes (science for non-majors) than the true bio majors. So, yes, it sounds misleading to claim a bio major when graduating general studies. It seems like you're insecure about the major in which you graduated.

I don't know man. I just know I started out in business and just recently switched. So I'm gonna have a minor in business, history, humanities, and social sciences.

No, just confused. I'm wondering why I can't go back for a BS in biology being that I already have a BGS in Biology. That's what I was told by the Dept. Chair.
