It did fade but not for long. Its been popular for awhile now. And I'm still terrible at it.

Piece of trivia for you....

Baton Rouge had a skateboard park back in the late 70's off Florida Blvd complete with Bowl, and slalom course.

My first board was a G&S Neil Blender Coffee Break. Lost a little steam in late 90's early 2000's, but seems to be reviving.

Also notice is old school sidewalk cruising type boards and skaters. It's easier, so not shocked since Gen Z will be lazier than Millenials.

Solid Surf.

Lots of cut off jean shorts, striped tube socks, and blue suede tennis shoes.

Oh, and "warm smell of colitas rising up through the air".

Better than playing video games or committing crimes.

Skateboarding takes balance and some athleticism and endurance.

Yeah the cruising type boards not as fun in deep South. When I lived in SD about 5 years ago kids were tearing down pretty big Hills on them. Seemed way more fun. I definitely used to skate a good bit in mid 90s on the boards that essentially had equal nose/tails. Good times.

I used to skate back when I was 12-17 or so. Really just used it as a way to pass the time when I couldn't ride my bike due to various upper body parts being in a cast.

it got huge in the early 2000's with the tony hawk video games launching and the X games starting.

skating was huge before that. the tony hawk video game and X games started because of popularity of skating and other alternative/extreme sports.
